Mixologist: How to Wear Wide Leg Pants

how to wear wide leg pants

“How to wear wide leg pants is simple, put them on one foot at a time”

Who doesn’t love a pair of wide leg pants?! Okay, honest moment, I used to HATE wide leg pants because I felt like they swallowed my petite frame and made me look shorter. But the moment I realized I was just styling them wrongly, a new world of possibilities opened up for me. Wide leg pants can be so chic and classy, and, they can elongate your frame. They can also make you look thinner as long as you know what to pair them with to achieve a body flattering look. In this post I want to give you three ways to wear this style and give you some options on where to buy some terrific wide leg pants.

  1. The first way to wear a pair of wide leg pants is as a monochromatic look. Maybe with a suit matching jacket or with the same color blouse and heels. A wide leg pant with a fitted matching suit jacket will give long lines and a chic look. A fitted jacket with the wide leg pants help to accentuate that waist line (and what girl doesn’t want an itty-bitty waist?!).
  2. The second way is to buy a pair of wide leg jeans and wear a belted shirt or crop top with it. Whenever you wear volume at the top or the bottom, you want to wear something a little more fitted to balance out your proportions so you don’t look big all over. A crop-top is a good way to go if you don’t mind a little midriff, but if you don’t want your tummy out, try a fitted bustier over a white shirt or a blouse that belts at the smallest part of your waist.
  3. Lastly stack those heels. Nothing makes a pair of legs look longer than a great set of heels. For my petite girls that want to give the wide leg pants another try, get a pair of platform heels to help make those legs look even longer. If you are on the taller side and don’t want to look taller, you can always wear a pair of flats to complete the look.

FYI a nice stripped fitted button down shirt tucked inside a pair of wide leg pants would also make a great work-day outfit. Take a look at some celebrities and stylist wearing the wide leg pants trend and get some inspiration from them.

With this look I have on, I followed my second rule of the wide leg pants trend and paired my Splashed by DKG pants with a cropped ribbed long-sleeve sweater. Since it’s winter, I put a grey wool coat over it, wore a pair of Jessica Simpson grey d’Orsay pumps and finished it off with a fur and leather bag.

I absolutely love this look because not only is it effortless, but, I look very thin wearing it. The wide leg pants elongate my frame and the cropped top gives me the illusion of a thinner waist (yes, I SAID ILLUSION). No six-pack yet, so I fake it until I make it.

Now, let me take a minute and talk about these pants designed by Derek and Daniel of Splashed by DKG. I LOVE THESE PANTS. As soon as I put them on I knew they did my body justice. I love that it’s a ruffle waist pair of wide leg pants and that they flatter my body and make me look longer and thinner. It’s red, which is the color of the season and the splashed texture gives it a whole lot of edge. Visit SplashedbyDKG to find out more about the company and shop their looks. I hope these tips have helped you in some way or another. Don’t forget to share this with someone that might love to read it and comment below and let me know how you would wear this wide leg pants trend. Find me on Instagram at Oluwafunmifly

Budgetnista: Shopping On A Budget

shopping on a budget

Shopping on a budget can feel like sleeping on hardwood floors, it can be done, but it’s no fun!

Who else loves to go window shopping knowing you can’t afford anything you’re looking at?! This is my life about 99% of the time. I’m the girl that will stare at a pair of $1,500 YSL pumps and know I can never bring them home. My husband on the other hand only ever looks at what he can afford. I literally get energized looking at high-end items, but then I get smart and look for the knock-off/less expensive version. Shopping on a budget can be hard at times, but it can also be very, very rewarding.

Friend, don’t sleep on those knock-off YSL boots or the Aldo quilted bag, they are just as beautiful as the quilted Chanel bag and you don’t have to eat ramen noodles of two months after buying them. However, if you can afford the Chanel bag, please slide in my DM and ship one to me (LOL). This post will talk about shopping on a budget and recreate this look for waaaaayyyyy less.

shopping on a budget

When shopping on a budget, you can’t worry about labels. Labels are exactly that, Labels. Sometimes you can buy an off-brand items that’s even better than it’s more expensive counterpart. We can’t worry about what people think because your shoes aren’t red bottoms or or purse isn’t an expensive brand…if you like it, buy it! This outfit is from Sax Fifth and cost over a thousand dollars (I DID NOT BUY IT BUT IT WAS PULLED FOR THIS SHOOT).

CLICK ON DESCRIPTION TO SHOP THIS LOOK:

Theory Pink Velvet Blazer: $495.00

Theory Belted Cigarette Pants: $395.00

Alice + Olivia Classic Tee: $125.00

Now, this look is amazing but if you don’t have that kind of money to spend on only one outfit, you can find a similar look for more than half the price. Another thing to remember when shopping on a budget is be ready to look. Search online, in different stores and don’t be afraid to take the picture of the item to the store and ask if they have something similar to it.

The last thing to remember when shopping on a  budget is to STICK TO THAT BUDGET! When you get out there you will se a lot of tempting options, but make a budget and don’t stray away from it. I like to take the exact amount of cash I plan on spending or put the exact amount on my Regions Now Card. That way, I can’t spend what I don’t physically have. Also, don’t be afraid to thrift or visit Plato’s closet for great second-hand items. I hope this post was helpful in some way and let me know if you decide to recreate this look.
