Sweater Weather

“I can smell Autumn dancing in the breeze”

Happy Sunday Lovies, please take a minute and say a prayer for this planet that we inhabit. There have been natural disasters from Houston, TX all the way to Sierra Leone, Africa. Let’s pray for the wellbeing and restoration of health, home and family for those affected by the storms world-wide.

This weeks look is another simple one. It’s all about sweaters and fall boots. I found a gold knitted sweater at my local Salvation Army thrift store and knew it would be perfect for the Fall weather. The sweater is not too heavy and could be worn with a undershirt beneath it. The gold color is also one of my favorites for the Fall. I put it with a Forever21 red pleated skirt and a short brown pair of old Jessica Simpson booties. I love this simple look.

Linked below is a F21 pleated skirt and a comparable sweater both for $15.99. I also linked a pair of boots that are perfect for the fall. My vintage Dooney and Bourke is old but any great leather bag would go perfect with this look.

Pleated Mini Skirt    Waffle Knit Sweater

Remember Fall is all about layering. My skirt is short and my sweater is long and warm. The booties are short because it’s not cold enough for thigh-highs. Play round with summer items you have in your closet and pair them with boots, sweater, jackets, etc…layer, layer, layer. Let me know what you think of this look and how you plan on revamping your summer clothes into Fall pieces.

2-Way-1-Skirt

The first day of April…April Fool’s Day!

I remember last year I played the funniest prank on my big sister. I went and got this home pregnancy test that read positive every time, no matter what! I went by her office and acted like I was very scared and nervous that I might be pregnant. So she took me to the bathroom and said she would be with me as I took the test. Well of course I WAS PREGNANT! hahahaha!!!

My sister started screaming and I started screaming. I acted like I was so mad and not ready to be a mom and I stormed out of there. I promise you I was not a block away from her job when I started getting phone calls from my mom, my dad and my uncle. They were texting, calling, asking me how I was and how happy there were for me. By this time, I knew I had to tell the truth. I didn’t know how to tell them and I felt bad for having lied to them. So I did the only thing I knew to do…I had my husband call my sister to break the news…there was NO baby. It was not pretty. My sister didn’t speak to me for 3 days and I learned my lesson. Some pranks you shouldn’t pull.

Well, what are some pranks you’ve played for April Fool’s Day? Comment below and let me know.

Now this post is called Double Trouble because I teamed with my college friend and fellow fashionista KD of keepinupwithkd.com to show you two ways to wear our favorite Forever21 white pleated skirt. Go visit her site to see how she wore this same skirt. The skirt is super affordable and very cute for the summer.

It’s All In The Jeans

Jeans are a hard thing to wear. How many ladies agree with me on this?

Okay, so they’re either super tight on your legs and hips or too big around your waist. Finding the perfect pair of jeans is like finding the perfect man. But, when you find that one that makes you look slimmer, taller and more confident at the same time, you buy more than one of them. Everyone has their favorite brand of jeans and their go-to store to purchase them.

My favorite jeans right now are skinny distressed jeans. I’m not into wide-leg or bell-bottom jeans; they never look right on me. The moment I find a pair of jeans with a tapered leg and elasticity, i’m a happy girl. I found the pair i’m wearing at Ross Dress For Less. I paired it with a vintage color-block jacket and a pair of color-block Sam Edelman booties and a snake-skin leather Elliott Lucca clutch. The Lucca bag is sold out, but there is this great site called Postmark that you can sell gently used clothing, shoes, bags, etc. I have the link for this beautiful bag down below for 50% less than the retail price.

If you know any great places to buy well-fitting jeans, let us know in the comment section. Also, let us know how you  like to wear your jeans. BTW don’t forget Mother’s Day is right around the corner. Maybe you can get her a pair of great fitting jeans.

Love you…Mean It.

Spring Has Sprung!

Spring is in the air! How exciting!

One of the best colors this Spring 2016 is Rose Quartz.rose

You can check out the other colors for this season on Pantone’s website. I remember I used to HATE pink when I was younger. Now, I can’t get enough of it. I even bought my husband a Salmon-colored button down shirt and after complaining about it for a week, he fell in love with it and wears it all the time now.

With that being said, I wanted to start off March with my favorite color. After putting on my yearly Winter weight, i’m always looking for new ways to hide the extra lbs (lol). My juicy arms are the first things to get bigger so I love any dress that can cover them up and make me feel less self-conscious. This dress did the trick. The chiffon material wears so easily and the pleats add definition and helps hide trouble hips. This dress is about 3yrs old, but I have links to some great chiffon dresses below. I paired this dress with a vintage bag, a popping red fringe sandals and a red lip. Let me know if you want to recreate this look. You can tag me in it on Instagram: Oluwafunmifly or Facebook: Emma Ford and I will repost it. Let’s March ahead and make this month Marvelous, Merry and Major.

Camo-Combo

Why is it so bad to stand out and be different?

I talked to this young girl the other day who was crying because no one at school liked her and wanted to be her friend. I thought back to when I was a kid and all I wanted to do was read. I had so many books. Whenever my dad would go out of town, he would bring everyone a gift. They always wanted candy or trinkets, I just wanted a book. So, I was labeled a nerd and I never quite fit in. My older sister, on the other hand, fit in perfectly. She was so bold, fun and everyone wanted to be her friend. I wanted to be just like her when I was younger.

But, being different is good! Ask anyone who was ever different growing up, it’s not all that bad. It may not feel like it when you’re that young, but believe me, you are the way you were meant to be. I gave the little girl a big hug and told her how different I was when I was a kid. Then I asked her, “do you think i’m weird now?” She still said yes, lol, but she said that she wanted to be weird like me. I told her that no matter what anybody says about her, she was perfect just the way she was and that she would grow up to be even more perfect. We have to remember that uniqueness is a beautiful thing. If we were all the same, if we all looked, talked and acted the same, the world would be a very boring place. Never Blend In. Always Stand Out.

Now, the only way that blending in is good is when you have on Camo…lol! My gorgeous friend Jenai is obsessed with Camo and got me obsessed as well. I found a gorgeous pair of Camo pants and paired it with a half jacket, a coat and my favorite pair of heeled sandals. Let me know what you think of the look and how you like to wear camouflage clothing.

Hey, if you have a picture of you in a pair of Camo’s or want to recreate this look, email it to funmis1@gmail.com or tag me in it on IG and i’ll feature it. Instagram: Oluwafunmifly / Snapchat: Oluwafunmifly / Facebook: Emma Ford

A Furry Situation

What does it mean to love yourself?

The other day a girl came up to me and told me that I had such great cheekbones and facial structure. I laughed it off and told her she must not see my double chin and fat cheeks. She just looked at me like she couldn’t believe I was saying that about myself.

After she left, I thought about the conversation. What would it have hurt me to just say thank you and happy that someone thought I was pretty. I should have been proud to be complimented by a total stranger. But I chose to point out my flaws so that she wouldn’t point them out first. I think sometimes we have a harder time seeing the beauty in ourselves than others do. Yes we have flaws, everyone has flaws; even the most beautiful people in the world have flaws. But, we don’t have to focus on them…we can choose to see the beauty despite the flaws

So, since this is the month of February, the month of love, let’s choose to love ourselves. Let’s choose to see our beauty and embrace our goodness. Comment below and let me know what you love best about yourself.

For me, the best part of myself, besides my mind, are my legs. They are not supermodel legs, but they get me where I need to go and they are shapely. Nothing brings them out better than an amazing pencil skirt. I found this Eva Mendes pencil skirt from New York and Company. I love the faux leather look and paired it with a simple blue off the shoulder top. This off the shoulder look is one of the top trends for 2016. I put on my favorite faux fur coat and these gorgeous Steve Madden jewel studded pumps.

Let me know what you think of this look and remember to comment below what you love most about yourself. Also, what are your plans for Valentine Day. I have a whole post on ideas for the day: Hello February.

NYC Eva Mendes Skirt: Option A- Forever21 / Option B: Asos

Blue Vibes

How are your goals coming along so far?

It’s only January so don’t worry if you haven’t begun yet, but Please, Please begin. I’ve not been posting as much because I’ve been in the process of looking for a new job and opportunity in my new city of Birmingham, AL. Send up a prayer when you think of me.

vulcan-park-and-museum

Otherwise, I’ve been enjoying my new city a lot. I live in Hoover and right across from the Galleria Mall. l finally did my first shoot here in the city and I am in love with this little spot called Vulcan Park. It has great views and literally overlooks the entire city.

I paired my LBD (Little Blue Dress) with a tan trench and tan thigh-high boots. I absolutely love this look. It’s effortless and great for a night out on the town or a day out with the girls. The dress itself can be worn in so many different ways and is very flattering for any shape.

Let me know what you think about this look and how you would have worn it differently.

Happy New Year!

Happy New Year Loves!

First post of 2016 and I am beyond excited to see another day. The greatest gift we get everyday is the opportunity to open our eyes, take a deep breath, and start our day all over again. No we have 365 days to write our own story and I hope you take advantage of it. Forget about the hurts and pains of 2015 and look forward to the glorious 2016 that God has given you and make it the best yet. Let go of the bad habits of 2015 and pick up new and better habits this new year.

I’m excited to share this new year with all you beautiful people who take the time to read and comment and show support to my little blog. I’m excited about what 2016 has in store for this little blog and to grow and learn with all of you.

Now, as many of my closest friends know, I am a Serial-Thrifter. This is one habit that is definitely going with me into 2016.  My obsession started when I began to fall in love with vintage clothing. I don’t know about you, but i’ve realized that they don’t make clothes as sturdy as they used to. Nowadays, the material is just cheap…you wash them once and they shrink, change colors or tear apart. But when I would visit my favorite thrift stores and find something, it would last longer. I literally drive around on weekends looking for more vintage and thrift stores. Any time I go out of town, I start googling local vintage shoppes immediately.

One of my favorite vintage places to shop is called Rag-O-Rama in Atlanta, GA. If you’re in the area, go and check it out and let me know what you think. If you’re in Montgomery, AL there is also a great place that sells vintage clothing called Relly Rue Creative Studio; they always have great things there.

My outfit today is a nod to my obsession to all things vintage. I found this dress at Rag-O-Rama in Atlanta, GA and paired it with a great pair of ankle strap Guess heels. I kept it really simple and let the dress speak for itself!

So, what are some of your favorite thrift and vintage stores? Comment below and let us know what city you live in and the vintage stores you like so that we can visit them.

Psss…Make 2016 SPECTACULAR! Be Bolder, Be Happier and Never Give Up! I Love You.

Floral Notes

How was your Christmas?!

Mine was fantastic and filled with love and family. Hope you didn’t do too much damage to your bank account…and I hope you got that special gift you wanted. I got so many good things and I can’t wait to style and show them to you all.

————————————————————-

I love being a girl!!!! I love being a girly-girl

I wouldn’t trade it for the world. Ever since I was little, I always wanted the biggest, glitteriest, fluffiest dress that the store had to sell. My mom would always laugh and ask me why I didn’t just pick out something more sensible…bless her heart. I would cry and cry and ask her for the one with the bows and glitter. Yes, I was that child.

My mentality has not changed…I still love frills, glitter and anything girly. So, when I went into Forever21 and found this floral midi skirt, I was over the moon. I loved styling it. I kept it simple and let the skirt do all the talking. Let me know what you think of this look below and let us know how you would describe your style. Are you more tomboyish or a full out princess, or somewhere in-between?

Top- Forever21 Curved Hem Curved Top

Skirt- Forever21 Tropical Print A-Line Skirt

Heels- Guess/ Option B / Option C

FYI: Unless you want to go on a juice fast for a week, buy the floral midi one size bigger. It fits tight around the waist.

Let me know how your Christmas was and how you like to wear floral print. I’m excited to see what 2016 has in store for us all.
