REMIXED: How to Style Pants Two Different Ways

“I don’t wear the same thing twice but I do wear the same thing more than once.”

When I was younger, my life goal was not to ever wear the same pants, dress or shoes more than once. I just wish I could go back and slap myself and say, girl get a grip and save your money. I spent every little dime on clothes and shoes because I thought I had to have something new every single day. Well, I’m older and wiser and I’ve come to the realization I don’t have to wear an outfit twice but I can definitely wear my favorite pieces more than one time.

One piece of wisdom I give to anybody that asks for fashion advice is to buy solid every-day pieces. Purchase a great pair of pants, a little black dress (LBD), a button-down shirt and a sensible but sexy pair of heels. These solid pieces can be mixed and remixed to make a bunch of different looks. The pair of polk-dot pants I’m wearing were purchased because I knew I could wear it so many different ways.

pants

In the first look, I subtly mixed prints. I styled my polka-dot pants with a polka-dot H&M men’s button down shirt. I brought in color in my little lip clutch and a pair of bright red Jessica Simpson heels. The starry-night cap brought this whole look together. The next way I styled these solid every-day pants was with an off-shoulder red sweater. I kept the bag and heels the same but added a wide brimmed hat or a more elegant feel. Both looks are so easy to copy and even easier to wear. A great pair of pants always adds more variety and selection to your closet.

Now, which styling of these every-day pants did you like better? Which way would you see yourself wearing the polk-dot pants or would yo have worn it differently? Remember to pick solid pieces that you can interchange and mix for different and unique looks. FYI, If you have a little money after picking up that LBD, those awesome pants, that button-down and those sexy heels, pick up a nice blazer and your closet will be complete. Valentine’s Day: Date Night Ideas for the Married and Single Person

Valentine's Day

Stay Calm, Valentine’s Day is tomorrow and i’m here to help

One of my favorite Valentine’s Day was my first one with my husband. He was such a BAD gift giver. My love language is gifts so I always go ALL OUT and spoil him. I get so much pleasure out of giving. He is the opposite. His love language is providing for us, so when it comes to gift giving, he thinks a book marker is a great gift (rolls eyes). Don’t worry, I’ve trained him and he’s getting better each year. But, our first Valentine’s day was special because it was our first and he gave me my favorite thing…unadulterated time with him. Sometimes, it’s not about gifts but about quality time with the one you love.

Now, don’t get me wrong…I LOVE A GOOD GIFT and a night out, so this post is all about some fun ideas that you and your spouse or single friends can do on Valentine’s Day. FYI, if you’re single, grab your girlfriends or guy friends and plan a night out with them. Here are four great Valentine’s Day date night ideas that are sure to be a hit:

  1. Game Night: for my singe guys and girl, invite some of your friends over and get Charades or Apples Over Apples out and enjoy each other’s company. You never know if you’ll find that special someone on your Valentine’s Day Game Night.
  2. Dinner and Netflix: I absolutely hate going out and standing in line for an hour for a table at a restaurant. Last Valentine’s Day, I actually cooked dinner for my husband and we stayed home, ate, talked and watched a movie. We had such a great intimate night and we didn’t have to tip anyone. Remember to keep it light, no talk about kids or finances, just good times.
  3. Table For Two: Now, if you want to brave the long lines and busy streets on Valentine’s day, make sure you call ahead to get put on their waiting list. Otherwise, pick a time that you know is not too busy, either go really early or later on for your date.
  4. Get Active: Get out and take your spouse or friends to a bowling alley or Top Golf. Find something active to do around your city and go make some memories. FYI Groupon is the best for finding coupons for great date ideas for Valentine’s Day

Married ladies, remember even if you’re staying home, dress up and make yourself into a gift for your husband. FYI husbands, try your best to look like a snack too. If you’re single and having friend’s over or going out for Valentine’s Day, make sure you look nice, you never know who you might bump into (ayyyyyeeeee).

Valentine's Day

My outfit is Valentine’s Day is perfect because it’s comfortable, cute and not overly cheesy with a bunch of red or pink. I kept it black and white with pops of red in my knit jacket and booties.

No matter what you do, make sure you enjoy yourself on Valentine’s Day. If you’re single, don’t just sit at home and bemoan your singleness, get out and enjoy time with yourself or with friends. If you’re married, plan something adventurous for your and your husband or wife and remember, no kids or finance talk..focus on the two of you and your love. I hope this helps you in some way.

NYFW: The Super Bowl Championship for designers and creatives

“Excuse me sir, but my Super Bowl is called New York Fashion Week and it’s starts TODAY!”

For those who don’t follow fashion as closely as some others do, the biggest events in fashion happen twice a year in the “big four” fashion mecca’s, New York, London, Paris, and Milan. The concept of fashion week began in London but the tradition has been “official” since 1943 when New York held it’s first official fashion week. Each fashion week lasts an actual week and allows buyers and influencers a taste of what’s upcoming in fashion and trends for the the next season.

Tickets for major shows are expensive and front row seats are as coveted as sleep after a week of having a newborn (lol)!. I will not be going this year, but I will get to enjoy the shows via live stream and runway photos from the show. You can watch the shows along with me HERE and view the official schedule for NYFW. BUT, if I were going, this outfit would be the first look I would sashay around the streets of New York in and shut it down.

fashion week

I kept this look feminine but edgy with a cute but rich floral jacquard peplum hem dress, and my on-trend heels with socks. This look is a little nod to my style. I love hyper-feminine clothing and all things pink but I also have a wild side (grrrr). What a perfect way to start off the first day of New York Fashion Week than in this outfit that’s the embodiment of all that is me.

My dress is not for sale anymore but I did link two of my favorite girly looks that you can easily pair with a pair of socks and my platform heels and then add a great coat to finish it off. One thing I love to do with a sleeveless dress during the winter is to pair it with a blouse as an undershirt. This one was made by my Friend Derek DeAndre and you can find more of his work Here.  I am putting the schedule for Fashion Week below and don’t be afraid to check other blogs and watch the live streams to find out what will be trending soon. I can’t wait until Next season when you and I both can meet up and have drinks before our first NYFW show. Check out my last blog post on my Super Bowl style HERE.

Championship 2018: Food and Fashion for Super Bowl Sunday

super bowl 2018

“I’m not a football fan but i’m going hard for Super Bowl 2018..clearly ONLY for the food and the fashion!”

Who will be watching the Super Bowl game tonight? My husband is at church right now praying for a win for his favorite team while I’m trying to think of the best appetizers and drinks to make his night a spectacular one. My thought is even If his team doesn’t win, at least he’ll eat good and get to view my fabulous outfits (yes, i’m planning my own half-time runway show). So, who are you rooting for?! Either, way, I hope these recipes puts you in a good mood no matter how good or bad or your team does tonight.

Any Super Bowl party is not complete without four items and one of them is soooo good even the people who don’t eat meat will dig in. I always make oven-baked wings, pulled pork nachos, some sort of chip and dip and stuffed mushrooms for my vegetarian friends.

Since it’s the Super Bowl, my outfit is army-inspired because we are here to fight! I found these army-pants at my local thrift store and fell in love with them. I knew I wanted to style them for the blog because camouflage print goes with just about anything.

FirstLady: Jackie-O Inspired Looks

Nothing screams demure, modest and future First Lady like an amazing skirt suit

I remember when Princess Diana died. My mum was a die-hard lover of her and her family. What she admired most about the beautiful Diana was her sense of social justice and her fashion-sense. I know I got my love of fashion from my mum. Princess Diana could always be seen in an amazing skirt suit or a beautiful dress that was reminiscent of my one of my favorite style icons, Jackie Kennedy Onassis. So, on this State of the Union night, I wanted to go for a classy and classic look channeling one of our First Lady’s Jackie Kennedy O.

From Diana, to her future daughter-in-law Kate Middleton, to even our new First Lady, (God bless her soul), Melania Trump, Jackie’s style essence continues to stand the test of time. The Skirt Suit became “a thing” because she wore it with class, dignity and beauty. My look today is inspired by her effortless slay and beautiful style.

SLIDE THROUGH FOR JACKIE-O INSPIRED LOOKS

Her style is timeless. Even to this day, her style is still emulated and recreated because modesty, grace and elegance can never go out of style. FYI the notorious Kim Kardashian also recreated some of Jackie’s most iconic looks. Here is my interpretation in my fav skirt suit and I hope I did it justice. Also, click to see and shop some of the most popular skirt suits online.

Now, how did I do?! Remember classic never goes out of style and modesty is NOT a four-letter word. This look would be great for a day at the office or even Sunday service. It’s elegant, ladylike, feminine and still a little sexy. If you recreate this look, tag me on Instagram or on Facebook. Check out my last post on the best jeans to flatter that figure HERE!

Jeanetics: The Perfect Jeans for Women

“The Perfect Jeans will have every head turning in the room..trying to figure out where you got them from”

Y’all the perfect jeans are as hard to find as a good man with a 200K a month job, and no baby momma drama. Sheesh, what does a girl have to do to find a pair that lengthen her legs, snatches in her waist and gives her an apple booty? Well don’t worry…i’m compiling some perfect jeans for the woman that is a jean-a-holic. That’s why this post is called “jeanetics,” because unlike the genes that make up who you are, the perfect jeans can make you who you want to be (ayyyyeee).

perfect jeans

After having a cesarean 13 months ago and then another cesarean due to ovarian tortion, my stomach has a permanent pouch at the bottom. YES, I’M WORKING ON GETTING RID OF IT…PRAY FOR ME! So, the perfect jeans for me is one that is high-waisted and is ready to put in work and cinch in my stomach. These pair are my absolute favorite because they cinch in my waist and my legs. When I jean shop, these are the three check points that have to be clicked off before I pull of hubby’s check card:

  1. HOW MUCH LYCRA YOU GOT– When shopping for jeans online or even in store make sure there is enough lycra. Remember the more lycra, the more stretch you get and the more comfortable the jeans will be. 2% elastane or spandex is what you want to look for in the perfect jeans.
  2. HOW HIGH– i’m a petite girl…i’m actually 5ft on a good day. So, for my shape, high-rise/waisted jeans are my best friends. they elongate me and accentuates my waist. Read about what jeans are perfect for your shape HERE.
  3. HOW MUCH– Listen, I love to shop smart and save money but I also know when I have to spend money on an item because it needs to last. When it comes to jeans, what you pay for is what you get. So, be ready to splurge when you find that perfect jeans that makes you look like a full-course meal. The one’s I’m linking below are very good to your wallet:

If you came to my house, you would find all of these perfect jeans in my closet. The first pair of perfect jeans from H&M is the pair I’m wearing in this post. I wanted to give you all a range from boyfriend jeans to jeans with drama so I hope you find a pair that speaks to you.

You can pair your new perfect jeans with any sweater or blouse and go out to strut your stuff. If anyone asks where you got your jeans from, tell them…a little birdy told me about these.

Black Power: What I’m Wearing to the Black Panther Premiere

February 16, 2018 is a BIG day because Black Panther comes and so does my power outfit

I plan on BUSTING the cinema doors wide open next month, dressed in ALL BLACK waiving my fist in the hair and celebrating the power that is Black Panther. I am so excited about this movie for more than one reason.black panther

When I was a young kid in Africa, my favorite superhero was Captain Planet. Who remembers him and his team of planeteers? They would go around saving the planet from all and any environmental disaster….Y’all i’m singing the theme song in my head now (lol). FYI I had a huge crush on Kwame, who was from Ghana and possessed the power of earth (yea, I was that kid).

Who else is planning on seeing Black Panther with me and if so, what are you wearing?! I actually planned on wearing something very Ankara and tribal but then I realized it was also Black history night and I wanted to make sure I was regal, powerful and unforgettable in black leather…ayyyeeeee! My motto for that night is Black Panther Loves Black Leather!

black panther

I am decked out in faux leather from head to foot in this post and I love it! I wanted to add some color to the look and what is better than a power red and a caution belt to warn people that I am armed and ready to slay. But seriously, I want to see this movie not only because it gives us a black superhero, which we desperately need, but also because of the powerful black females that are a part of the cast. These women just aren’t arm candy or helpless maidens waiting to be rescued, but they are QUEENS and warriors in their own right and as women, we need to see more of this on the big screen.

Now, let’s talk about this all black ensemble. When wearing black, I like to mix different textures and prints. When wearing any monochromatic look, keep this in mind…mix textures. I have a soft sheen faux leather stretch thigh-high boots and a faux leatherette jacket with a fur collar. Everything is black and leather but the textures are different. I also added a red patent leather bag to complete this ensemble. You don’t have to copy my look exactly but I want to give you some of my favorite leather items that would definitely make a statement at the Black Panther premiere.

BOSSED UP: Pants Suits For The Everyday Woman

You know a boss lady when she struts into the room suited and booted in a well-fitted pantsuit”

Soap Box Moment: For so long, women have worked harder or as hard as men but made statistically less dollar for dollar than their counterparts. Women have been marginalized, put down, and harassed simply because of their sex. Well women, It’s time for us to put on our pantsuits and fight back against every injustice, and harassment anyone would try to throw our way. The Golden Globes last night made me so proud to be a W-O-M-A-N!

I was almost in tears when Oprah said in her speech, “So I want all the girls watching here, now, to know that a new day is on the horizon…” a day where our truths and our words will set us free from discrimination. Almost every woman came, dressed in all black, in solidarity against the sexual abuses that has been happening in Hollywood for centuries. I wore all black as I watched from my home in solidarity with them as well. Remember, no matter how scared you are to speak out, “your truth is the most powerful tool you will ever have” so SPEAK OUT and don’t let anyone ever shut you down as a woman…YOUR VOICE IS POWERFUL!

Now, let me get off my soap box and talk about the fashion on the red carpet and some of my favorite looks…fyi some of the women had on pantsuits.

This slideshow requires JavaScript.

I just loved Kyra Sedgwick’s pantsuit so much. It fit her like a glove and accentuated her tiny waist and long legs. It also cemented the fact that women are here to stay, a force to be reckoned with and not to be taken lightly. To me a well-fit pantsuit will speak volumes and louder than anything else you can say.

Wanderlust: New Years in New Orleans

travel tips

“My travel tips came in handy on my recent visit to the beautiful New Orleans”

How did you ring in 2018?! I brought it in with my husband and son and a family friend in New Orleans. There are two places that I love to visit simply because I can eat until I drop. One of those places is Chicago and the other is New Orleans. This is my fourth time visiting this beautiful, historic city and I fall in love with it more and more each time I go. So, If you ever plan on visiting New Orleans or going anywhere in 2018, keep reading my travel tips and see some behind the scene pictures and videos into our last 2017 Adventure.

Traveling Tips

Traveling with my husband has always been so easy-breezy. We packed, went to a new city and LIVED IT UP. Now, enter our one-year-old who thinks the world revolves around him (the gag is, it really does). Things changed and I learned a lot. Here are my three travel tips while vacationing with a mini-emperor.

travel tips

  1. Be fluid: I am the chief planner. I like to do things a certain way and I plan all our trips, meals and adventurers when we travel. Honey, with a child all that changes. If he doesn’t want to go out to eat, we don’t go. If he needs a nap, we leave the zoo, museum, outing, wherever and take him back for a nap. So, don’t get mad…just adjust. Even if you don’t have a kid, things and plans change and when on a trip, learn to take it easy and be fluid. Don’t get mad when a flight gets cancelled or you don’t get into a place you wanted to go, find something else to do and have fun. Keep reading for more travel tips.
  2. Travel Light: Now that I have to pack for two, I have learned to pack lightly. Plus, If you overpack, how are you going to bring your goodies back home?! I also learned to roll my clothes into little balls so that I can get more into the suitcase.
  3. Bring a camera: Listen carefully, don’t get stuck behind a camera while your family enjoys life without you, but do bring one along to document the vacation. I asked my husband for half-a-day to shoot for my blog and I incorporated him into the shot day by having him drive me to the best places for photography, and we even shot in a park so him and my son could play while I did my thing. You want to document the time but not be left out of the experience. These three are not just travel tips, but life trips in general so apply them wherever you see fit.

After those three travel tips, the last I want to give you is to download some of my favorite traveling apps. I live for apps that tell me where the best eateries, events and night-time fun can be found. I love YELP and I use it even in my own city to find the best eateries around. I also go on Foodnetwork and look up places that Guy Fieri of Diners Drive-in and Dives has been to and I visit those spots if possible (his lists are legitimately awesome). If you’re flying continental or across the states, Tripit is a great app that creates a master itinerary for every trip you make. PackPoint helps you pack and not forget essentials based on where you are going and of course Uber to give you rides from your airport to hotel or around the city and Google Maps for those who rent cars or drive from one city to another. FYI carry around Theraflu or Emergen-C and hand sanitizer especially if you have a young one. Planes and hotels are filled with germs and you don’t want to catch a bug while enjoying your vacation.

travel tips

We arrived In New Orleans Friday night and we went out to Cheesecake Bistro and I had the shrimp pasta and the red velvet cheesecake. I decided to channel Kim K and wear sweatpants with some clear heels. I dressed to eat that night. The next day, we went to my favorite brunch place called Trolley Stop and I wore a pair of faux leather pants, an army green slouchy tee, a blazer and leopard print flats.

Saturday was my photoshoot day and our park day. I can’t wait to show you all the looks I shot…but I did get to shoot a family friend we brought along to help us out with Sammy and she looked divine. We then went to Acme Oyster Bar for dinner and petted some horses. New Orleans just has so much to see. We stayed in the French Quarter at Staybridge Inn so we could walk practically everywhere.

Sunday, which was New Years Eve, We watched my home church on our phones and then we went Two Sisters for dinner. That night was amazingly cold and we didn’t stay out long. We finished off the NYE night with watchnight service on our phones and rang it in kisses, hugs and fireworks going off around the city of New Orleans. It was divine.

New Years day was a rest day for all of us because we were all getting a bit under the weather. But that night, my husband and I went to the Alabama Game at the Mercedes-Benz Auditorium (this is the real reason why my husband took us to NO..lol). He is a BIG Alabama fan and once again his team dominated. It was my first live-football game experience and even though I didn’t know what was happening, I enjoyed being there with him.

The last day we stopped by Cafe Du Monde and grabbed a couple of beignets and coffee and hit the road. Overall, the trip was a smashing success. We all got sick, but I wouldn’t trade the memories for anything in the world. If you plan on visiting this beautiful city, take a look at the list of the eateries down below and check them out next time you’re there. Remember to make 2018 the best year ever and check out my last post on how to make realistic goals for 2018 HERE
