Flower.Power

“A flower does not think about competing with the flower next to it. It just blooms”

Who doesn’t love a bouquet of flowers sent to their home, job or school? *NOT ME* I’m just not a real flower person; i’ll take faux flowers any day. Those little things die so quickly and end up smelling really bad. If you want to surprise me, Chanel will do. The only flowers I want are the fake one I don’t have to water or bother with at all. That’s why I love this floral look I’m blogging today…it’s full of fake flowers. LOL! It’s a simple shift dress with cut out shoulders and a floral headband. It’s a fun look and perfect for a day out on the town or a fun brunch with your girlfriends.

Shift dresses are perfect for the summer and mine is no exception. It’s super lightweight, not clingy and easy to wear. I’ve had it belted before when I wanted to make it more of a “going out” dress, but for a day date or brunch, it’s perfect unbelted. I paired it with a pair of blue Steve Madden platform heels, my floral headband, and one of my favorite Michael Kors powder-blue quilted Sloan bag. My dress is no longer available but I found an awesome one under $20.00 on Amazon.

I love the simplicity of this look. Anything I can wear that allows me to eat and not have to suck in my stomach is my best friend. My MK bag is under $200 and a great buy; I wear it a lot and the sheen on it is gorgeous. I also love these thick STURDY heels. Overall, this look is just fun and comfortable!

Let me know what you think about this look and let’s chat about handbags. Michael Kors is in the process of buying Jimmy Choo for 1.2 Billion, what are your thoughts on that. They are two such different brands; I am looking forward to seeing how they will work together as a team. Ghagerian

Have you ever wanted to be someone else?! (*slowly raises hands*)

I think we’ve all, once and maybe even now, desired to shed our skin and be someone prettier, lighter, stronger, taller, thicker, darker, etc. I remember when my sister and I moved from Africa when I was eight years old. I just wanted to be an American. I wanted to talk normal, I didn’t want to take pounded yams and peanut stew to school. The kids used to make fun of me and my sister for our hair, our clothes and especially our “stinky” food. I remember praying and asking God to make me someone different. The beautiful thing was He did, but not in the way I wanted. I never got lighter, I never got taller and I never got the Cindy Crawford legs and shape but I got ME.

The moment I learned to be Happy with my Ghanian and African heritage, my short stubby legs and my coarse hair and dark skin, I became happier. I was made beautiful the way He wanted me to be and my imperfections just added to my charm. No matter how you see yourself, remember, You are gorgeous, you are amazing and He made you beautiful the just the way you are.

This look is based on my Ghanian/Nigerian heritage. I am Ghagerian. I shot this look in beautiful Birmingham at Steel City Pops in Homewood. If you live in Birmingham or get a chance to come up here, try them out. I always get the Avocado pop because it’s dairy free and delicious. So, I styled a jumpsuit my mother brought back for me from Ghana with a gold choker from boohoo, a pair of velvet Gianni Bini heels and a brown faux leather bag.

Let me know what you think about this Ankara look. Since this outfit is from Africa, I am going to link some of my fav ankara looks I have found online. Also, have you ever dealt with image issues and how did you overcome them? I love hearing from you guys so comment below.

As you can see, I couldn’t resist buying a pop while I was there. LOL. Click on pictures for links to purchase this look:

Fuchsia.Passion

A strong and barely controllable emotion” is what webster defines as PASSION!

We all have once had a passion for something. Whether it was playing basketball, being an actor, being a doctor, being a lawyer, or being a singer, passion would keep us up at night and keep us dreaming during the day. Well, along the way, passion fizzles out. Life comes in and waters down the fire of passion and with time, we forget, we lose sight, and we move on. Now, it’s time to pick up those passions friends.

Remember, you don’t have to quit your life, your job, your day-to-day activities to pursue passion. You just have to find time to carve you a space for you and a space to pursue your passion. You can do it. Let me know what passions you have given up on and how you decide to pick it up and make those dreams a reality. The difference between dreams and reality is You. You make the dream work, so get out and work!

This look is my Fuchsia Passion. I found this gorgeous dress at the Ghetto Dillards (Dillard’s Outlet in Eastdale Mall). Being a new mommy, my arms are just not where I want them to be so I paired the dress with a stripped off-shoulder blouse, a folded faux-leather bag and black and white heels. This look is perfect for that special occasion. I have linked sites where you can buy that perfect evening outfit so check them out and tag me on IG: Oluwafunmifly  or FB: Houseofodara if you recreate this look. Don’t forget to comment and let me know what you think. Also, let me know what other looks you want to see and ask any questions you may have.

Hello, my name is Emmanuella Oluwafunmilayo Searcy Ford and I am addicted to Amazon

Okay, in this day and age, a lot of people know how utterly BOMB Amazon is and how it makes the world go round. The best feeling in this world, beside my babies kisses, oh and my husbands…lol, is getting that box with a smiley face on the side on my doorstep. Amazon, oh Amazon, how do I loveth thee (Amazon 3:12).

Here’s the thing, If you’ve never purchased anything from the site, it can be really intimidating. My first time, I was so afraid the clothes wouldn’t fit and then I would just be stuck with something I didn’t like or something with horrible quality. Well, This post is for those who are Amazon virgins or have been burned by Amazon before and have given up. I am going to give you five easy steps on how to become Amazon-literate. First, of course, get an Amazon account. Better yet, sign up for an Amazon Prime account and let the shopping begin.

  • Always Always read the reviews: these are always found at the bottom of the page after you see the products. Just keep scrolling down and go past the recommended listings, the size charts and then you will find the reviews. You can see what actual buyers said about the products and some even put up pictures of them in the items. I always try and write a review every time I buy something. If it doesn’t have a review, buy at your own risk. FYI always make sure the positive outweighs the negative comments.
  • Be Specific: when typing in what you want into the search box, be as specific as possible. If it’s a coconut purse you’re looking for, make sure you type exactly that. For example, put in “Yellow coconut bag” or “White button down long sleeve shirt”
  • Check Sizing Chart: Okay, some of these sellers will be Chinese sellers or sellers from out of the country and their
sizing charts are always different. Chinese sellers always run smaller and not true to size so be careful. Right next to the place where you pick your size, they have a size chart that should have chest and waist dimension if it’s a shirt and other dimensions for pants or jeans. Always look at the sizing charts and again read the reviews. People will let you know if the items are true to U.S. size.
  • Discover Prime: Okay, Amazon has this great program called Prime. It’s a yearly membership that allows you to get the items with 2-day shipping. Man, last Christmas I had a field day last minute shopping. If you can afford it, Prime is the way to go. Prime accounts users don’t have to pay shipping and handling and you return things for free and again, two-day shipping.
  • Explore Amazon: Lastly, take time out and explore this marketplace. Just go in and put things into your shopping cart and type different items you would like to have and stare them into reality…LOL. Amazon notifies you if anything in your cart has gone down in price, so sleep and pray on those purchases. FYI Amazon just started a new program where you can try clothes out before you actually purchase it. With anything on Amazon you can always return the items and get your money back. They will send you the shipping label  and all you have to do is print it and take it to your nearest USPS. Amazon has made shopping so easy, you’ll actually enjoy it.

FYI July 11th is Amazon Prime day and it’s like Black Friday for the cyber world….aaahhhh. You have to be a Prime member to get these deals but you can sign up for a free trial offer and take part of the epic savings. I encourage you guys to take time out and explore what Amazon has to offer. I am putting a couple of hot items for the summer that is on my wish list so far or that i’ve already purchased. You will love the items. Click on the pictures and it will take you directly to the Amazon page:

These are all great summer looks that are under $50.00. Let me know if and when you decide to give Amazon a try and if these tips helped you at all. If you are looking for anything specific and want help searching, email me @funmis1@gmail.com and i’ll def help look and send you links. I’ll also do this again for the fall/winter and put some on trend looks for the season. Hey, should I do a similar post for the fellas? Let me know. Happy shopping loves.

Spring Has Sprung!

Spring is in the air! How exciting!

One of the best colors this Spring 2016 is Rose Quartz.rose

You can check out the other colors for this season on Pantone’s website. I remember I used to HATE pink when I was younger. Now, I can’t get enough of it. I even bought my husband a Salmon-colored button down shirt and after complaining about it for a week, he fell in love with it and wears it all the time now.

With that being said, I wanted to start off March with my favorite color. After putting on my yearly Winter weight, i’m always looking for new ways to hide the extra lbs (lol). My juicy arms are the first things to get bigger so I love any dress that can cover them up and make me feel less self-conscious. This dress did the trick. The chiffon material wears so easily and the pleats add definition and helps hide trouble hips. This dress is about 3yrs old, but I have links to some great chiffon dresses below. I paired this dress with a vintage bag, a popping red fringe sandals and a red lip. Let me know if you want to recreate this look. You can tag me in it on Instagram: Oluwafunmifly or Facebook: Emma Ford and I will repost it. Let’s March ahead and make this month Marvelous, Merry and Major.

Camo-Combo

Why is it so bad to stand out and be different?

I talked to this young girl the other day who was crying because no one at school liked her and wanted to be her friend. I thought back to when I was a kid and all I wanted to do was read. I had so many books. Whenever my dad would go out of town, he would bring everyone a gift. They always wanted candy or trinkets, I just wanted a book. So, I was labeled a nerd and I never quite fit in. My older sister, on the other hand, fit in perfectly. She was so bold, fun and everyone wanted to be her friend. I wanted to be just like her when I was younger.

But, being different is good! Ask anyone who was ever different growing up, it’s not all that bad. It may not feel like it when you’re that young, but believe me, you are the way you were meant to be. I gave the little girl a big hug and told her how different I was when I was a kid. Then I asked her, “do you think i’m weird now?” She still said yes, lol, but she said that she wanted to be weird like me. I told her that no matter what anybody says about her, she was perfect just the way she was and that she would grow up to be even more perfect. We have to remember that uniqueness is a beautiful thing. If we were all the same, if we all looked, talked and acted the same, the world would be a very boring place. Never Blend In. Always Stand Out.

Now, the only way that blending in is good is when you have on Camo…lol! My gorgeous friend Jenai is obsessed with Camo and got me obsessed as well. I found a gorgeous pair of Camo pants and paired it with a half jacket, a coat and my favorite pair of heeled sandals. Let me know what you think of the look and how you like to wear camouflage clothing.

Hey, if you have a picture of you in a pair of Camo’s or want to recreate this look, email it to funmis1@gmail.com or tag me in it on IG and i’ll feature it. Instagram: Oluwafunmifly / Snapchat: Oluwafunmifly / Facebook: Emma Ford

Jump-Jump

Who doesn’t love a great jumpsuit?!

kelly

If you watched the Grammys, you got to see actress Kaley Cuoco of the Big Bang Theory in a beautiful white sparkling jumpsuit.

It was stunning. It elongated her legs, showed off her awesome toned arms and beautiful physique. She rocked that jumpsuit. She kept the jewelry minimal and only added a simple clutch to complete the look. This was one of my favorite looks of the night.

Jumpers are fantastic because you can wear it so many different ways. You can pair it up with heels for a night out or wear them with flats for a day of running errands. They are a versatile piece of clothing to have in your closet and fairly inexpensive. I found a gorgeous plum colored jumpsuit with a sweetheart neckline that fit perfectly and looked FANTASTIC. I topped it off with a Kristen Blake coat and a fur collar. Now my jumpsuit is sold out but there is a great option B from Asos for only $26.00. I put the links for each item at the bottom of the pictures. Check it out.

Let me if you’re into jumpsuits and how you like to wear yours. Also, what were your thoughts on the Grammy’s last night? Comment below and let us know.

Does your husband or boyfriend let you dress them for special occasions? So, would you dress him in this look? I like it because it’s so clean and crisp and would tone down the bright reds and pinks that I would definitely be wearing.

A Furry Situation

What does it mean to love yourself?

The other day a girl came up to me and told me that I had such great cheekbones and facial structure. I laughed it off and told her she must not see my double chin and fat cheeks. She just looked at me like she couldn’t believe I was saying that about myself.

After she left, I thought about the conversation. What would it have hurt me to just say thank you and happy that someone thought I was pretty. I should have been proud to be complimented by a total stranger. But I chose to point out my flaws so that she wouldn’t point them out first. I think sometimes we have a harder time seeing the beauty in ourselves than others do. Yes we have flaws, everyone has flaws; even the most beautiful people in the world have flaws. But, we don’t have to focus on them…we can choose to see the beauty despite the flaws

So, since this is the month of February, the month of love, let’s choose to love ourselves. Let’s choose to see our beauty and embrace our goodness. Comment below and let me know what you love best about yourself.

For me, the best part of myself, besides my mind, are my legs. They are not supermodel legs, but they get me where I need to go and they are shapely. Nothing brings them out better than an amazing pencil skirt. I found this Eva Mendes pencil skirt from New York and Company. I love the faux leather look and paired it with a simple blue off the shoulder top. This off the shoulder look is one of the top trends for 2016. I put on my favorite faux fur coat and these gorgeous Steve Madden jewel studded pumps.

Let me know what you think of this look and remember to comment below what you love most about yourself. Also, what are your plans for Valentine Day. I have a whole post on ideas for the day: Hello February.

Off-Shoulder Shirt: Charlotte Russe

NYC Eva Mendes Skirt: Option A- Forever21 / Option B: Asos

Steve Madden Galaxxie Pumps: Steven Madden

I pray that your weekend is Safe, Successful and Super. Love you all…Mean it!

Hello February

It’s the Month of Love!

Time for heart-shaped candies, Oversized teddy bears and lots of proposals. My husband actually proposed to me February 12, 2014. February is a beautiful month. Even if you are a single woman or man, there are still ways to celebrate. I know a group of single girls that do a “Girls Night Out” to celebrate the joy of being single and encourage each other. Find something like that in your area, or simply dress up and go out with a friend; you don’t have to sit at home lonely just because you haven’t found your special someone. Before we were both married, my bestie Brittini and I would go out and even buy each other gifts…LOL.

So, for my married women, what are your plans with your hubby? I need ideas and quick. I’m thinking a trip to Atlanta.

kim-kardashian-soho-new-york-city-balmain-blazer-dress-gianvito-ankle-wrap-pumps

Kim Kardashian West

I wanted to start out this month with RED!!!! And nobody does color better to me than Calvin Klein. The dress is a blazer style dress, which has been very popular lately. Kim Kardashian is seen here in a Balmain Blazer dress for $4,885.00. If you can afford it, please buy me one too.

My dress was NOT that expensive at all but it’s still super FLY. I’m so obsessed with this style and have worn a similar dress before. I found this one at IMG_8761forever21 and paired them with some Nine West heels and an oversized belt from Charlotte Russe. I will not blog this look because i’m blogging this red look that’s very similar.

Let me know what you think of this Hot Red dress and look and let me know about your valentine day plans and if you’re single, let us know some great things for singles in your area. Someone single might be reading this that needs something to do in your area.
