A Stripped Affaire

Mixing colors and patterns is fun!

But, It has to be done right. My little niece loves to do this–she puts on everything she can find in her closet and wants to walk out the door with a huge smile on her face. She’ll put on neon tights with a floral dress, add a stripped jacket and twirl around like the cutest thing on planet earth. I sometimes laugh at what she has on because she’s so young, she doesn’t realize that even though they look cute individually, together they are a hot mess. Still, mixing prints and colors can be really awesome when done the right way. I decided to tackle this look in this new post.

I purchased this Gianni Bini stripped romper from Dillard’s and found a beautiful stripped Nine West bag to compliment it. The bag looks good next to the stripes on the romper and the colors look great together. I put a blue fluff keychain on it and tied it all together with a pair of thigh-high boots. The colors not only compliment each other, but help pull each other out. I really love this simple look. What are your thoughts?

Let me know how you like to mix colors and patterns and If you want to recreate this look, tag me in it on Facebook: Emma Ford or Instagram: Oluwafunmifly. I cannot wait to see all your looks.

Have a great weekend Lovies. Love you, Mean it!

It’s All In The Jeans

Jeans are a hard thing to wear. How many ladies agree with me on this?

Okay, so they’re either super tight on your legs and hips or too big around your waist. Finding the perfect pair of jeans is like finding the perfect man. But, when you find that one that makes you look slimmer, taller and more confident at the same time, you buy more than one of them. Everyone has their favorite brand of jeans and their go-to store to purchase them.

My favorite jeans right now are skinny distressed jeans. I’m not into wide-leg or bell-bottom jeans; they never look right on me. The moment I find a pair of jeans with a tapered leg and elasticity, i’m a happy girl. I found the pair i’m wearing at Ross Dress For Less. I paired it with a vintage color-block jacket and a pair of color-block Sam Edelman booties and a snake-skin leather Elliott Lucca clutch. The Lucca bag is sold out, but there is this great site called Postmark that you can sell gently used clothing, shoes, bags, etc. I have the link for this beautiful bag down below for 50% less than the retail price.

If you know any great places to buy well-fitting jeans, let us know in the comment section. Also, let us know how you  like to wear your jeans. BTW don’t forget Mother’s Day is right around the corner. Maybe you can get her a pair of great fitting jeans.

Love you…Mean It.

Camo-Combo

Why is it so bad to stand out and be different?

I talked to this young girl the other day who was crying because no one at school liked her and wanted to be her friend. I thought back to when I was a kid and all I wanted to do was read. I had so many books. Whenever my dad would go out of town, he would bring everyone a gift. They always wanted candy or trinkets, I just wanted a book. So, I was labeled a nerd and I never quite fit in. My older sister, on the other hand, fit in perfectly. She was so bold, fun and everyone wanted to be her friend. I wanted to be just like her when I was younger.

But, being different is good! Ask anyone who was ever different growing up, it’s not all that bad. It may not feel like it when you’re that young, but believe me, you are the way you were meant to be. I gave the little girl a big hug and told her how different I was when I was a kid. Then I asked her, “do you think i’m weird now?” She still said yes, lol, but she said that she wanted to be weird like me. I told her that no matter what anybody says about her, she was perfect just the way she was and that she would grow up to be even more perfect. We have to remember that uniqueness is a beautiful thing. If we were all the same, if we all looked, talked and acted the same, the world would be a very boring place. Never Blend In. Always Stand Out.

Now, the only way that blending in is good is when you have on Camo…lol! My gorgeous friend Jenai is obsessed with Camo and got me obsessed as well. I found a gorgeous pair of Camo pants and paired it with a half jacket, a coat and my favorite pair of heeled sandals. Let me know what you think of the look and how you like to wear camouflage clothing.

A Furry Situation

What does it mean to love yourself?

The other day a girl came up to me and told me that I had such great cheekbones and facial structure. I laughed it off and told her she must not see my double chin and fat cheeks. She just looked at me like she couldn’t believe I was saying that about myself.

After she left, I thought about the conversation. What would it have hurt me to just say thank you and happy that someone thought I was pretty. I should have been proud to be complimented by a total stranger. But I chose to point out my flaws so that she wouldn’t point them out first. I think sometimes we have a harder time seeing the beauty in ourselves than others do. Yes we have flaws, everyone has flaws; even the most beautiful people in the world have flaws. But, we don’t have to focus on them…we can choose to see the beauty despite the flaws

So, since this is the month of February, the month of love, let’s choose to love ourselves. Let’s choose to see our beauty and embrace our goodness. Comment below and let me know what you love best about yourself.

For me, the best part of myself, besides my mind, are my legs. They are not supermodel legs, but they get me where I need to go and they are shapely. Nothing brings them out better than an amazing pencil skirt. I found this Eva Mendes pencil skirt from New York and Company. I love the faux leather look and paired it with a simple blue off the shoulder top. This off the shoulder look is one of the top trends for 2016. I put on my favorite faux fur coat and these gorgeous Steve Madden jewel studded pumps.

Let me know what you think of this look and remember to comment below what you love most about yourself. Also, what are your plans for Valentine Day. I have a whole post on ideas for the day: Hello February.

Blue Vibes

How are your goals coming along so far?

It’s only January so don’t worry if you haven’t begun yet, but Please, Please begin. I’ve not been posting as much because I’ve been in the process of looking for a new job and opportunity in my new city of Birmingham, AL. Send up a prayer when you think of me.

Otherwise, I’ve been enjoying my new city a lot. I live in Hoover and right across from the Galleria Mall. l finally did my first shoot here in the city and I am in love with this little spot called Vulcan Park. It has great views and literally overlooks the entire city.

I paired my LBD (Little Blue Dress) with a tan trench and tan thigh-high boots. I absolutely love this look. It’s effortless and great for a night out on the town or a day out with the girls. The dress itself can be worn in so many different ways and is very flattering for any shape.

Let me know what you think about this look and how you would have worn it differently.

Ruffled

How many times has someone ruffled your feathers?

How many times has someone disappointed you or just made you mad? I cannot begin to count the number of times someone has let me down or made me so mad I had to speak in 10 different languages to calm myself down. It’s funny how one person can change our whole mood and day. I realized I never wanted to have anyone have that much power over my emotions and life. If you think about it, the moment you allow someone to change your mood, your attitude or your emotions, they have the upper hand…they win. But, if you remain calm, show grace and smile even when you are screaming on the inside, you win. The moment you don’t react the way someone expects you to, you show them that you are better, stronger and more mature than them…and that’s a good thing.

I remember a really trying time in my life last year when everybody seemed to be coming against me, talking about me and trying to get me to come out of character. My mom told me to kill them with kindness and to show them the love and grace of God. I did just that, and those same people that were bent on making me miserable, came back and apologized to me. I Won! LOL!

Let’s never allow ourselves to take off our crown to get down and dirty in the mess of someone else. They are not worth it…and you are worth more!

————————————————–

Now that the only thing ruffled in our lives will be what we’re wearing on the outside. Check out this ruffled look. I am loving this ruffled skirt from Kardashian Collection for Sears. It’s no longer in stock but it comes in handy when I just want something cute, flirty and girly. I paired this feminine skirt with a simple knit racer front top, color blocked caged sandals, and a comfy jacket.

Check out this look and let me know what you think. Comment below and let me know how you respond to the negativity of others. Believe me, negativity will come but your reaction and how you handle it is all that matters. Give us some tips that work well for you and also let me know how you would have worn this look differently. I love hearing from you all and growing from all your suggestions, so thank you!

Tuxed Out!

It’s almost a New Year you guys and I don’t know about you, but 2015 went by so quickly. I will be doing a post on planning for 2016 and how to set goals that are achievable. Comment below with some of your new year’s goals and plans.

So, i’ve always wanted to do a menswear inspired look. This look is very popular and I like the look of a powerful woman in a tuxedo. I decided to try out this style but make it a little sexy (shhhh…don’t tell my mom). I purchased this great Gianni Bini tuxedo jacket in February and it’s literally been sitting in my closet ever since. I found a sleeveless version on Dillard’s website that’s very chic and another great one, called the “Cara Jacket” is right on the money and my next purchase…(shhh don’t tell Sam). Now, remember, if you click these links, it will take you straight to these products and their websites. I know a lot of people love the whole tuxedo jackets with no shirt trend, but I am not one of those people…I need the support of a bra and shirt.

I’ve had this striped bustier for about 5 years and never worn it. American Apparel has a reasonably priced one that has underwire (the girls that need the extra support can shout now). I love underwire…even in my bathing suits. Their striped cotton spandex underwire bustier is really cute and on sale for $21.

My pants were originally wide leg pants but I took them to a tailor to get the legs slimmed down. H&M has a great pair of tuxedo pants with the satin piping on the sides and the slimmed legs. Check all these sites out and recreate this look.

These sexy Jessica Simpson Claudette D’orsay heels are simply stunning and go well with everything–I have them in three different colors. Make sure you check all these sites out and recreate this look. Also, feel free to email me some pics of you in this great look and I will repost.

Now, let me know what you think about this look, how you would have worn it differently or any suggestions that you have (comment below).
