Steps=Success

“Nothing great in life is ever comes easy and nothing easy is ever great”

Success doesn’t come with an escalator…that would be too easy. Success comes with a deep, dark, dank staircase that seems to never end. Your level of commitment to climbing these steps will be your level of greatness in whatever you are trying to achieve. For example, school begins this month, and as you know, passing your classes and doing well depends entirely on you. For those who work every day, most of the time, your promotions and raises depend on your level of hard work and determination. There is nothing God, determination and hard work cannot accomplish. Remember, you are destined for greatness, you cannot lose. Keep persevering, keep climbing…don’t look at the others whizzing quickly past you. Your journey is your own. Keep moving.

As a blogger, mother, and wife, I see others doing so well in their area of expertise and it keeps me down and it makes me want to quit. But, I have to remember, they put in work to be where they are now. They didn’t just arrive at 100K followers, they didn’t just raise amazing kids, they didn’t just have that “Perfect” marriage…IT TOOK WORK. It takes work people. I’m writing about this subject because it’s something i’ve been dealing with lately a lot. I remember shooting this look and second guessing everything about myself…Sometimes, we are our own biggest critics, when we should be our own biggest cheerleaders. When the steps get steep and your legs want to give out on you, don’t come down on yourself, but celebrate how far you’ve come and encourage yourself to keep going.

Y’all, I didn’t mean to preach! LOL. Let’s get into this look. So, I was in Eastdale Mall in Montgomery, AL (on my way to Ghetto Dillards) when I stumbled onto this THOT shop called Pink Clove. You know the boutiques that only sell club wear…yea, that one. But, they had this jewel hanging in the window and God knows, It was whispering, “come here Emma, come buy me!”

How could I resist a talking shirt. It took me two weeks but the next time I was down there, I brought it home. I paired it with this Elizabeth Taylor skirt i’ve had for ages (Tip: Always have a couple of expensive, quality items in your closet that can be staple pieces…these will outlast 100’s of inexpensive pieces). I added my pink Selma Michael Kors bag and some light pink heels from Forever21 (No, those are not Azzedine Alaias).

Nudecember

Birthday Month!

So, let’s get this out of the way, how much turkey, dressing, sweet potato pie, ham, etc. have you eaten since Thanksgiving? Tell the truth…lol. Now it’s a new month and a almost a new year. Wow, how time flies when you’re busy.

I hope you enjoyed the BTS ( behind the scene) I posted of my family during Thanksgiving. If you didn’t see the post, the link is here. I love how my family keeps everything we do God-centered. I promise you that is the recipe for success. I also did a great Iron Bowl post for those who are Alabama fans. Check it out here.

Now that you’ve put on that 3lbs of Thanksgiving love handles, are you ready to go nude?  Not that kind of nude. Get your mind out of the gutter! I mean the fabulous kind of nude…the kind of nude you can wear outside the house without the police arresting you. The monochromatic kind of nude.

I just so happened to find these great pair of nude leggings at the Ghetto Dillard’s. If you live in Montgomery, Alabama, it’s the one in Eastdale Mall. My sister and I started calling it that after it became an outlet/zoo. I absolutely love the place and practically live there. Call me when you’re going because I’ll probably already be there. Check it out for great deals. Almost everything I have on today, I purchased there.

Remember to comment below and let me know how you like to go nude.

Psss…the best kind of nude is the kind you can wear outside the house.

Because I’m Happy

What does it mean to be truly happy? I remember when I was a kid, I used to be so moody, angry and pessimistic about everything. I never quite fit in any circle. I was from Africa, I was short, I had an accent, I was a nerd…and the list goes on and on. So, needless to say, I was never happy with myself or the world. Then as I got older, I began to become more comfortable with myself and to truly love myself.

I had to come to terms with the fact that no one can make me happy like I can make me happy. I know you’ve probably heard this before, but it is so true. I realized that if there was an area in my life I was unhappy with, I had to take an active role in fixing it…I had to find my own inner happiness. Yes, I was short. Yes, I had an accent. Yes, I was a book-nerd, but that’s what make me who I am. I was not meant to be like everybody else–and I should not want to be like everybody else.

Learning to be internally happy with yourself is the best gift you can give to yourself this holiday season. You may not have the man you want, the money you want, the body you want or the fame you want, but at least you are alive, you are capable and you have a future. So, when you’re feeling unhappy with yourself, or jealous of someone else’s happiness, remember all that you have, be thankful for it, and watch your attitude and feelings begin to change.

Above all, remember that no one can audition to be you, that role is already filled…so break a leg!

Print+Texture

I don’t know about you, but i’ve always been afraid to wear shorts. You know those girls in high school that always wore shorts and they had that spectacular thigh-gap?! I wasn’t one of those girls. I was 4’ll, heavy and afraid of everything. Plus, with my parents being pastors, shorts were NO BUENO! So I NEVER wore shorts. Until I realized, who cares if my thighs talk to each other on a consistent basis? Who cares if they high-five each other every time I walk? No two people are shaped the same and that’s a beautiful thing. So, here is how Emmanuella Oluwafunmilayo Searcy Ford wears short-shorts.

I’m wearing a pair of faux leather shorts by Olsenboye, a red and black printed peplum shirt by Gianni Bini and a printed jacket by Alex Marie. H&M has some great faux-leather shorts for 19.99. Dillard’s has Alex Marie’s Natalya Windowpane Jacket that would go well with any look.

Don’t you just loving mixing prints and textures? Let me know what you think and how you would have paired it differently.
