Party Like A Rockstar: Inexpensive Dresses for the Holidays

“Inexpensive Dresses for the Holidays is the theme of this show…stay tuned!”

Listen Linda, I don’t know about you, but Thanksgiving was a working holiday for me. For the first time in years, I didn’t spend it with my family but I was in Atlanta working with Macy’s. It was amazing but I definitely missed all the love, food and family and hopefully next year i’ll be with them for Thanksgiving. However, I did enjoy two big plates the next day and I did get to enjoy Black Friday shopping with the masses. How was your Thanksgiving? I hope it was amazing. Now, that this holiday is over, It’s time to get ready for Christmas and all those awesome Christmas parties. This post will give you insight into some of the hottest trends of the season, and you can shop some of the best inexpensive dresses for the holidays.

One of the biggest trends of this season is crushed velvet clothing. I have seen so many celebrities wearing this trend and rocking it very well. I styled a velvet dress I got from Dillards with a pair of velvet, fuchsia, open-toe chunky heels and a velvet cropped jacket to on top of the dress. I finished off the look with a staple fuchsia Adachic Design quilted holiday clutch. This look was so easy to put together and is perfect for any holiday party that you get invited to attend.

Inexpensive dresses for the holidays and holiday party can come in a lot of colors but one you need to try is the color RED. Pick a bright red dress and you will be sure to wow as soon as you enter the room. You can always top the look off with a solid black coat or a piece of fur for a little drama.

Another great trend and inexpensive option is a comfortable but on-trend sweater dress. An embellished or off-shoulder sweater dress can be very sophisticated and a great option to wear to any occasion.

When it comes to inexpensive dresses for the holidays, pick the one that’s not only comfortable but the one you know you’ll wear even after the holidays. These dresses would fit just about any occasion and event. Now, the last trend I want to show you is the glitter-bomb/shimmer party dress. This is for the girl that knows she just has to be the knockout when she enters the room (ummm that’s me).

Remember today is Small Business Saturday so visit your local boutiques and shops and spend some cash. Small businesses are the backbone of your communities and cities and they deserve all the support they can get. I am wearing a purse from a local business owner in Montgomery, Alabama. I did a blog post about them and you can read about it and shop their bags HERE. Have a good rest of your weekend and let me know what you think of this look.

Ghagerian

Have you ever wanted to be someone else?! (*slowly raises hands*)

I think we’ve all, once and maybe even now, desired to shed our skin and be someone prettier, lighter, stronger, taller, thicker, darker, etc. I remember when my sister and I moved from Africa when I was eight years old. I just wanted to be an American. I wanted to talk normal, I didn’t want to take pounded yams and peanut stew to school. The kids used to make fun of me and my sister for our hair, our clothes and especially our “stinky” food. I remember praying and asking God to make me someone different. The beautiful thing was He did, but not in the way I wanted. I never got lighter, I never got taller and I never got the Cindy Crawford legs and shape but I got ME.

The moment I learned to be Happy with my Ghanian and African heritage, my short stubby legs and my coarse hair and dark skin, I became happier. I was made beautiful the way He wanted me to be and my imperfections just added to my charm. No matter how you see yourself, remember, You are gorgeous, you are amazing and He made you beautiful the just the way you are.

This look is based on my Ghanian/Nigerian heritage. I am Ghagerian. I shot this look in beautiful Birmingham at Steel City Pops in Homewood. If you live in Birmingham or get a chance to come up here, try them out. I always get the Avocado pop because it’s dairy free and delicious. So, I styled a jumpsuit my mother brought back for me from Ghana with a gold choker from boohoo, a pair of velvet Gianni Bini heels and a brown faux leather bag.

Let me know what you think about this Ankara look. Since this outfit is from Africa, I am going to link some of my fav ankara looks I have found online. Also, have you ever dealt with image issues and how did you overcome them? I love hearing from you guys so comment below.

As you can see, I couldn’t resist buying a pop while I was there. LOL. Click on pictures for links to purchase this look:
