Flower.Power

“A flower does not think about competing with the flower next to it. It just blooms”

Who doesn’t love a bouquet of flowers sent to their home, job or school? *NOT ME* I’m just not a real flower person; i’ll take faux flowers any day. Those little things die so quickly and end up smelling really bad. If you want to surprise me, Chanel will do. The only flowers I want are the fake one I don’t have to water or bother with at all. That’s why I love this floral look I’m blogging today…it’s full of fake flowers. LOL! It’s a simple shift dress with cut out shoulders and a floral headband. It’s a fun look and perfect for a day out on the town or a fun brunch with your girlfriends.

Shift dresses are perfect for the summer and mine is no exception. It’s super lightweight, not clingy and easy to wear. I’ve had it belted before when I wanted to make it more of a “going out” dress, but for a day date or brunch, it’s perfect unbelted. I paired it with a pair of blue Steve Madden platform heels, my floral headband, and one of my favorite Michael Kors powder-blue quilted Sloan bag. My dress is no longer available but I found an awesome one under $20.00 on Amazon.

I love the simplicity of this look. Anything I can wear that allows me to eat and not have to suck in my stomach is my best friend. My MK bag is under $200 and a great buy; I wear it a lot and the sheen on it is gorgeous. I also love these thick STURDY heels. Overall, this look is just fun and comfortable!

Let me know what you think about this look and let’s chat about handbags. Michael Kors is in the process of buying Jimmy Choo for 1.2 Billion, what are your thoughts on that. They are two such different brands; I am looking forward to seeing how they will work together as a team. Steps=Success

“Nothing great in life is ever comes easy and nothing easy is ever great”

Success doesn’t come with an escalator…that would be too easy. Success comes with a deep, dark, dank staircase that seems to never end. Your level of commitment to climbing these steps will be your level of greatness in whatever you are trying to achieve. For example, school begins this month, and as you know, passing your classes and doing well depends entirely on you. For those who work every day, most of the time, your promotions and raises depend on your level of hard work and determination. There is nothing God, determination and hard work cannot accomplish. Remember, you are destined for greatness, you cannot lose. Keep persevering, keep climbing…don’t look at the others whizzing quickly past you. Your journey is your own. Keep moving.

As a blogger, mother, and wife, I see others doing so well in their area of expertise and it keeps me down and it makes me want to quit. But, I have to remember, they put in work to be where they are now. They didn’t just arrive at 100K followers, they didn’t just raise amazing kids, they didn’t just have that “Perfect” marriage…IT TOOK WORK. It takes work people. I’m writing about this subject because it’s something i’ve been dealing with lately a lot. I remember shooting this look and second guessing everything about myself…Sometimes, we are our own biggest critics, when we should be our own biggest cheerleaders. When the steps get steep and your legs want to give out on you, don’t come down on yourself, but celebrate how far you’ve come and encourage yourself to keep going.

Y’all, I didn’t mean to preach! LOL. Let’s get into this look. So, I was in Eastdale Mall in Montgomery, AL (on my way to Ghetto Dillards) when I stumbled onto this THOT shop called Pink Clove. You know the boutiques that only sell club wear…yea, that one. But, they had this jewel hanging in the window and God knows, It was whispering, “come here Emma, come buy me!”

How could I resist a talking shirt. It took me two weeks but the next time I was down there, I brought it home. I paired it with this Elizabeth Taylor skirt i’ve had for ages (Tip: Always have a couple of expensive, quality items in your closet that can be staple pieces…these will outlast 100’s of inexpensive pieces). I added my pink Selma Michael Kors bag and some light pink heels from Forever21 (No, those are not Azzedine Alaias).

Ghagerian

Have you ever wanted to be someone else?! (*slowly raises hands*)

I think we’ve all, once and maybe even now, desired to shed our skin and be someone prettier, lighter, stronger, taller, thicker, darker, etc. I remember when my sister and I moved from Africa when I was eight years old. I just wanted to be an American. I wanted to talk normal, I didn’t want to take pounded yams and peanut stew to school. The kids used to make fun of me and my sister for our hair, our clothes and especially our “stinky” food. I remember praying and asking God to make me someone different. The beautiful thing was He did, but not in the way I wanted. I never got lighter, I never got taller and I never got the Cindy Crawford legs and shape but I got ME.

The moment I learned to be Happy with my Ghanian and African heritage, my short stubby legs and my coarse hair and dark skin, I became happier. I was made beautiful the way He wanted me to be and my imperfections just added to my charm. No matter how you see yourself, remember, You are gorgeous, you are amazing and He made you beautiful the just the way you are.

This look is based on my Ghanian/Nigerian heritage. I am Ghagerian. I shot this look in beautiful Birmingham at Steel City Pops in Homewood. If you live in Birmingham or get a chance to come up here, try them out. I always get the Avocado pop because it’s dairy free and delicious. So, I styled a jumpsuit my mother brought back for me from Ghana with a gold choker from boohoo, a pair of velvet Gianni Bini heels and a brown faux leather bag.

Let me know what you think about this Ankara look. Since this outfit is from Africa, I am going to link some of my fav ankara looks I have found online. Also, have you ever dealt with image issues and how did you overcome them? I love hearing from you guys so comment below.

As you can see, I couldn’t resist buying a pop while I was there. LOL. Click on pictures for links to purchase this look:

Konnichiwa

Konnichiwa Friends…

or better yet, Good day. It’s FRIYAY and the weekend begins. I am keeping this post really short and simple because this outfit is just that, sweet and simple. I found this gorgeous “Japanese” inspired kimono on my favorite site Amazon and I dreamed about it until I finally saved up my coins to purchase it on Prime Day. I’m thinking about doing video reviews of the items I get from Amazon and other sites, what do you guy think about that?!

So, the Kimono came in two days (Prime) and it was perfection. FYI Amazon prime is offering 30 day free trials for those who want to take advantage of two day shipping and free shipping and handling. Click Here for the offer. The robe/kimono was silky, belted and the color was amazing. I actually hosted one of my friends plays in this very outfit. I got so many compliments and inquiries about the kimono that I decided I had to blog it. The beauty of this piece is that it’s so in season right now. Celebrities have been wearing the kimono/trench look all summer long. Beyonce’s Gucci kimono cost a whopping $21,945….I found mine on Amazon for less than $25.00

So these stars may have spent a fortune on their Kimonos, but you can get the same floral look for WAY LESS.

I paired this look with some simple distressed light jeans, a yellow Giani Binni blouse, Amazon gladiator heeled sandals and some gorgeous tassel earrings also from Amazon. CLICK ON PICTURES TO GO DIRECTLY TO THE SITE.

Let me know your thoughts on the whole kimono trend…whether you like it or not, and why. I love it because it’s so lightweight, I can wear it during the summer and also use it to cover up some too tight jeans and my juicy, juicy arms…lol!

These pics were taken at Aldridge Gardens in Hoover, AL. This place is absolutely gorgeous. You can look below for some pics from the spot!

Fuchsia.Passion

A strong and barely controllable emotion” is what webster defines as PASSION!

We all have once had a passion for something. Whether it was playing basketball, being an actor, being a doctor, being a lawyer, or being a singer, passion would keep us up at night and keep us dreaming during the day. Well, along the way, passion fizzles out. Life comes in and waters down the fire of passion and with time, we forget, we lose sight, and we move on. Now, it’s time to pick up those passions friends.

Remember, you don’t have to quit your life, your job, your day-to-day activities to pursue passion. You just have to find time to carve you a space for you and a space to pursue your passion. You can do it. Let me know what passions you have given up on and how you decide to pick it up and make those dreams a reality. The difference between dreams and reality is You. You make the dream work, so get out and work!

This look is my Fuchsia Passion. I found this gorgeous dress at the Ghetto Dillards (Dillard’s Outlet in Eastdale Mall). Being a new mommy, my arms are just not where I want them to be so I paired the dress with a stripped off-shoulder blouse, a folded faux-leather bag and black and white heels. This look is perfect for that special occasion. I have linked sites where you can buy that perfect evening outfit so check them out and tag me on IG: Oluwafunmifly  or FB: Houseofodara if you recreate this look. Don’t forget to comment and let me know what you think. Also, let me know what other looks you want to see and ask any questions you may have.
