Hey Girl Hey!!

Okay, if you know me, you know I’m all about the holidays, especially Christmas!! It is imperative for me to make sure that everyone that is dear to me is in the holiday spirit!  I just Loveee it!! Holidays give you a reason to shop more & care less (until your bank statement arrives)!!

Nevertheless, I’m all about treating yourself-you’ve worked all year, buy the SHOES (do it for the culture)!! I’m sure I’ve used the excuse of “it’s Christmas” one too many times in regards to one too many purchases!! People ask, “What is it about the holidays that you love so much?” My answer is simple:

When I think of the holidays I think of relaxation, time off work, *random ugly sweater parties (any excuse to partay!) & quality time with friends and family. Too often we get caught up in the combustion of the materialistic items and find ourselves stressed out!! While in reality it’s not even about that. Don’t get me wrong. I will shop til’ I drop (I’m not a shopaholic, I’m actually helping the economy). However, I’m more so here for creating moments that turn into forever memories.

I’m a mommy to a FABULOUS five year old (Kaylen) that has a personality bigger than herself!! I honestly never saw myself being a mother. & I honestly never thought that I would be saying this… but she is the BEST thing I’ve ever done!! Hands down!

A day in my life consist of being a full-time mother, (shout out to mothers, especially SINGLE mothers) working as a full-time Paralegal & prepping to finesse my way into law school. My mind is constantly on GO, always thinking, always prepping, always scheduling, literally ALWAYS doing something!

For this very reason when holiday season comes I am HAPPY. I am JOYFUL. I am THANKFUL. I am APPRECIATIVE. During the months of January-October we are busy getting our lives together for the better! I look at November (Thanksgiving) & December (Christmas) as a time to relax & catch up on things and people that I may have put off during my “Grind Months”.

“GIVE THEM THEIR FLOWERS WHILE THEY’RE STILL ALIVe”

Holiday season is the perfect time to do so! Take time out to appreciate the ones you love, you don’t have to literally give flowers (unless that’s your thing) but words and affection can go a long way.

This holiday season my hope is that we don’t forget the true reason for the season (Isaiah 9:6). That we find bliss within the smallest things. & that we take time out to love our loved ones while they are here.

Happy Holidays! May they be as EXTRAORDINARY as YOU!

PARTY OF 3!

HAPPY THANKSGIVING LOVES!

It’s been a while since i’ve posted anything and today seems like the perfect day to begin again.

So, I had a baby! LOL! I took a break to enjoy my pregnancy…plus, I was so huge, I couldn’t fit into anything anyway. I went from a nice 135lbs to a whooping 196lbs before my 8lb baby boy made his debut. When I say that baby Sammy was a surprise….HE WAS NOT PLANNED! BUT, VERY WELCOME!

7 months!Pregnancy Shoot

We found out we were pregnant on my parent’s 24th wedding anniversary and nothing was the same afterwards. Pregnancy was not what I expected. I wanted that pregnancy glow everyone talks about…but, what I got were chin hairs, vicious acne, stretch marks, severe acid reflux and LOTS of extra fat.

Still, Samuel Krisitian Ford came out a health baby.

Ready to PopD-Day. At Brookwood HospitalFresh Out the Womb

He was 4 days overdue and STILL didn’t want to come out so I ended up having to get a cesarean. Now, i’m just trying to heal and enjoy my little family.

Today, Sammy is 3 weeks old and gaining weight every single day.

He is the joy of our lives, he is the reason for my reason for lack of sleep, the reason I smell like vomit and urine all day long and the reason I am constantly smiling (how did I get so lucky?).

He is my new reason for existing. So this Thanksgiving, I want to take time out to say how thankful I am for my little Ford family and this blessing God has bestowed on Samuel and I.

I hope you all are enjoying time with your families and all that good home cooking. I pray that your homes are filled with joy, peace and much love.

Happy Thanksgiving…Love you, Mean it!

pssss…enjoy Black Friday for me and shop twice as hard

It’s All In The Jeans

Jeans are a hard thing to wear. How many ladies agree with me on this?

Okay, so they’re either super tight on your legs and hips or too big around your waist. Finding the perfect pair of jeans is like finding the perfect man. But, when you find that one that makes you look slimmer, taller and more confident at the same time, you buy more than one of them. Everyone has their favorite brand of jeans and their go-to store to purchase them.

My favorite jeans right now are skinny distressed jeans. I’m not into wide-leg or bell-bottom jeans; they never look right on me. The moment I find a pair of jeans with a tapered leg and elasticity, i’m a happy girl. I found the pair i’m wearing at Ross Dress For Less. I paired it with a vintage color-block jacket and a pair of color-block Sam Edelman booties and a snake-skin leather Elliott Lucca clutch. The Lucca bag is sold out, but there is this great site called Postmark that you can sell gently used clothing, shoes, bags, etc. I have the link for this beautiful bag down below for 50% less than the retail price.

If you know any great places to buy well-fitting jeans, let us know in the comment section. Also, let us know how you  like to wear your jeans. BTW don’t forget Mother’s Day is right around the corner. Maybe you can get her a pair of great fitting jeans.

Love you…Mean It.

Spring Has Sprung!

Spring is in the air! How exciting!

One of the best colors this Spring 2016 is Rose Quartz.rose

You can check out the other colors for this season on Pantone’s website. I remember I used to HATE pink when I was younger. Now, I can’t get enough of it. I even bought my husband a Salmon-colored button down shirt and after complaining about it for a week, he fell in love with it and wears it all the time now.

With that being said, I wanted to start off March with my favorite color. After putting on my yearly Winter weight, i’m always looking for new ways to hide the extra lbs (lol). My juicy arms are the first things to get bigger so I love any dress that can cover them up and make me feel less self-conscious. This dress did the trick. The chiffon material wears so easily and the pleats add definition and helps hide trouble hips. This dress is about 3yrs old, but I have links to some great chiffon dresses below. I paired this dress with a vintage bag, a popping red fringe sandals and a red lip. Let me know if you want to recreate this look. You can tag me in it on Instagram: Oluwafunmifly or Facebook: Emma Ford and I will repost it. Let’s March ahead and make this month Marvelous, Merry and Major.

A Furry Situation

What does it mean to love yourself?

The other day a girl came up to me and told me that I had such great cheekbones and facial structure. I laughed it off and told her she must not see my double chin and fat cheeks. She just looked at me like she couldn’t believe I was saying that about myself.

After she left, I thought about the conversation. What would it have hurt me to just say thank you and happy that someone thought I was pretty. I should have been proud to be complimented by a total stranger. But I chose to point out my flaws so that she wouldn’t point them out first. I think sometimes we have a harder time seeing the beauty in ourselves than others do. Yes we have flaws, everyone has flaws; even the most beautiful people in the world have flaws. But, we don’t have to focus on them…we can choose to see the beauty despite the flaws

So, since this is the month of February, the month of love, let’s choose to love ourselves. Let’s choose to see our beauty and embrace our goodness. Comment below and let me know what you love best about yourself.

For me, the best part of myself, besides my mind, are my legs. They are not supermodel legs, but they get me where I need to go and they are shapely. Nothing brings them out better than an amazing pencil skirt. I found this Eva Mendes pencil skirt from New York and Company. I love the faux leather look and paired it with a simple blue off the shoulder top. This off the shoulder look is one of the top trends for 2016. I put on my favorite faux fur coat and these gorgeous Steve Madden jewel studded pumps.

Let me know what you think of this look and remember to comment below what you love most about yourself. Also, what are your plans for Valentine Day. I have a whole post on ideas for the day: Hello February.

Off-Shoulder Shirt: Charlotte Russe

NYC Eva Mendes Skirt: Option A- Forever21 / Option B: Asos

Fur Coat- Find one that’s affordable and comfortable. Try out local thrift or vintage stores

I pray that your weekend is Safe, Successful and Super. Love you all…Mean it!

Blah Blah Blah

People will always have something to say!

Whether you asked for their opinions or not, someone will have something to say to you about something. LOL! In this age of Facebook, tweets, cell phones, iPads and all the other ways we communicate with each other, someone will say something that is uncalled for and unwelcome. I have learned to simply tune out those opinions and “advice” that aren’t really helpful. I have learned to laugh at the people that say something mean or rude and make it sound like advice. You know the ones that say things like, “you know sweetheart, you just aren’t built for that” or “girl you’ll never get that job…maybe you should apply for something easier” or “Honey if I were you I would quit” or “just leave him, he’ll never change.” The list goes on and on. I find it funny that the ones who give up on their dreams are the first to give the same advice that helped them fail. If they can’t pull you down, then they try to talk you down. They intimidate and put fear in your heart so you won’t reach for greater.

TUNE THEM OUT! Every time negativity comes your way, let it come in one ear and go out the other. Learn to know the difference between constructive criticism and negativity. One builds you up and the other brings you down.

Choose to hear “blah, blah, blah” when someone is in your ear trying to give you false advice or speak death over your dreams and aspirations. You’ll be happier if you do this, trust me. You don’t know how many times i’ve given up because I followed the wrong leader or listened to the wrong voice.

—————————————————-

Gianni Bini is one of my favorite go-to labels when it comes to clothes. Dillard’s sells a lot of this designers items and I never fail to find something that is trendy, inexpensive and absolutely fabulous.

I found this great faux leather jacket with the matching skirt by Binni about two months ago. As soon as I saw the pair, I knew it was going home with me…LOL. I paired it with this killer sleeveless graphic shirt by Soprano and my favorite pair of JLO boots courtesy of Khols.

Hope you like this look. Let me know what you think and how you like to wear your faux leather. Also, give us advice on how you drown out negativity and negative comments. Being on social media and starting this blog, I get a lot of negative comments, especially on Instagram, so I had to learn to get tougher skin and not pay attention to any of it.

Pass…Kylie Jenner had a similar (more expensive) look on the other day by Cushnie Et Ochs with these bomb pair of Brian Atwood thigh high boots:

Toxic

Don’t You Know That It’s Toxic

So, how many of you remember that song Toxic by Britney Spears (yes, i’m old…lol). In it she sings about a boy that she knows is bad for her, but she is so addicted to him that she can’t let him go. I used to be obsessed with this song when I was younger. I sang it all the time because the beat was so catchy and the song was just fun. But, it’s actually a very sad song. Britney sings that the guy she’s in love with is dangerous but she loves it! Wait, what?! But, if you think about it, haven’t we all had a toxic relationship at least once in our life? #raiseshand

I used to be in a relationship like this. I dated a guy who was very mentally and verbally abusive. I was never good enough for him. I thought if I was slimmer, if I just wore more makeup, if I didn’t talk back and agreed to everything he said, he would be nicer to me. I dumbed down my voice and personality to try and be the person he wanted. But, what I didn’t realize was that he didn’t have the capacity to love me the way I needed to be loved. He had his own issues and problems. He was miserable, so all he had to give was misery. Now, if I decided to stay in that relationship, hoping and praying he would change, I would have no one to blame for my decision. So, I did the smart thing, I RAN! I left that relationship and never looked back. Believe me, it wasn’t easy to let go of someone I thought I loved so much, but I saw my future and I wanted better for it. I prayed and asked God for strength not to go back and not to give in. I occupied myself with other things, and a couple of months later I realized I hadn’t thought about him or about that situation in weeks.

Your situation might be different from mine. You might have been or are currently in a toxic friendship. You know, that friend that always puts you down, is secretly jealous of you and never has anything good to say about you. Or you might currently be in a toxic relationship where you are being abused physically or emotionally. Or your issue might be a boyfriend or girlfriend that only uses you for your money, your body or your attention. We’ve all invited these toxic people into our lives and allowed them to overstay their welcome. Sometimes we are so afraid of being alone, of letting go, of the unknown that we just live in the mess hoping for change. And sometimes we just stay hoping for the best. What we have to realize is that we have to be the change we want to see. If someone or something in your life is unhealthy, “do da Heisman on em” and keep it moving. Remember that you are worth more!

As we enter 2016, let’s make a decision together to let go of any relationships that are toxic. Whether platonic or romantic, if it doesn’t benefit us, our dreams and our goals, we will let it go. Let’s also decide to grab ahold of the things that matter to us, and be passionate about the good and healthy things in our lives. How many of you all will do this with me?

I want to know what toxic relationships and situations you have already let go of and which ones you plan on letting go of in 2016.  Share this post with someone that needs it and comment below and let us  your thoughts. Plus, I know I have some wise followers, so comment and let us know ways you cut toxic things out of our life. I can’t wait to read your responses.

*If you are in a physically toxic relationship, please find a pastor or counsellor to talk to. This is a serious situation and you have to speak to someone about it to get help and assistance in getting out. You are worth more than someone who cannot respect you enough to protect you from themselves* (334.613.3363)

POP

We all have that one great coat that we love so much we wear it with everything. I bought mine from this great store called Ross Dress for Less. If you’ve ever been to Ross, you know you have to search deep and wide but when you do, you find the best items at really great prices.

Now, this season, the two-piece cropped look has been so popular on and off the runway. One of celebrities that I think styled and wore it to perfection is the lovely Kim Kardashian West. She’s a pretty petite woman (in some areas)…So I knew I would be able to pull off this look with my short torso. I found this great two-piece, paired it with some cute heels and added my POP of color…My bright coat.

If you want to replicate this look, I found the cutest two-piece plus-size set at Forever 21…check it out. For my petite and regular girls, check out Charlotte Russe for a real cute and inexpensive set.

Now, let me know what you think about this look, how you would have worn it differently or any suggestions that you have (comment below).
