Mixologist: How to Wear Wide Leg Pants

how to wear wide leg pants

“How to wear wide leg pants is simple, put them on one foot at a time”

Who doesn’t love a pair of wide leg pants?! Okay, honest moment, I used to HATE wide leg pants because I felt like they swallowed my petite frame and made me look shorter. But the moment I realized I was just styling them wrongly, a new world of possibilities opened up for me. Wide leg pants can be so chic and classy, and, they can elongate your frame. They can also make you look thinner as long as you know what to pair them with to achieve a body flattering look. In this post I want to give you three ways to wear this style and give you some options on where to buy some terrific wide leg pants.

  1. The first way to wear a pair of wide leg pants is as a monochromatic look. Maybe with a suit matching jacket or with the same color blouse and heels. A wide leg pant with a fitted matching suit jacket will give long lines and a chic look. A fitted jacket with the wide leg pants help to accentuate that waist line (and what girl doesn’t want an itty-bitty waist?!).
  2. The second way is to buy a pair of wide leg jeans and wear a belted shirt or crop top with it. Whenever you wear volume at the top or the bottom, you want to wear something a little more fitted to balance out your proportions so you don’t look big all over. A crop-top is a good way to go if you don’t mind a little midriff, but if you don’t want your tummy out, try a fitted bustier over a white shirt or a blouse that belts at the smallest part of your waist.
  3. Lastly stack those heels. Nothing makes a pair of legs look longer than a great set of heels. For my petite girls that want to give the wide leg pants another try, get a pair of platform heels to help make those legs look even longer. If you are on the taller side and don’t want to look taller, you can always wear a pair of flats to complete the look.

FYI a nice stripped fitted button down shirt tucked inside a pair of wide leg pants would also make a great work-day outfit. Take a look at some celebrities and stylist wearing the wide leg pants trend and get some inspiration from them.

With this look I have on, I followed my second rule of the wide leg pants trend and paired my Splashed by DKG pants with a cropped ribbed long-sleeve sweater. Since it’s winter, I put a grey wool coat over it, wore a pair of Jessica Simpson grey d’Orsay pumps and finished it off with a fur and leather bag.

I absolutely love this look because not only is it effortless, but, I look very thin wearing it. The wide leg pants elongate my frame and the cropped top gives me the illusion of a thinner waist (yes, I SAID ILLUSION). No six-pack yet, so I fake it until I make it.

Now, let me take a minute and talk about these pants designed by Derek and Daniel of Splashed by DKG. I LOVE THESE PANTS. As soon as I put them on I knew they did my body justice. I love that it’s a ruffle waist pair of wide leg pants and that they flatter my body and make me look longer and thinner. It’s red, which is the color of the season and the splashed texture gives it a whole lot of edge. Visit SplashedbyDKG to find out more about the company and shop their looks. You can also find them on Instagram Splashedbydkg.com

I hope these tips have helped you in some way or another. Don’t forget to share this with someone that might love to read it and comment below and let me know how you would wear this wide leg pants trend. Find me on Instagram at Oluwafunmifly

Dream=Your Creative Vision

Your Creative Vision

“A dream is your creative vision for your life in the future. You must break out of your comfort zone and become comfortable with the unfamiliar and the unknown.”
–Denis Waitely
Hello, Today I have Ashlen Cuyler, founder and CEO of HeyGirlHeyUnited writing for the blog. I hope it helps you in some way because I know it’s made me more motivated for being successful in 2018. So, Don’t click away, read on and let her know what you think:
Recently, I wrote down a few things that I could do differently in order to get ahead. During the process of brainstorming, I realized that my task were all aligned with my comfort zone. My creative vision was limited and didn’t require much from me.
Not one thing on my “getting ahead list” consisted of taking a risk!
As humans we are natural creatures of comfort. Neutral state — a place where stress and anxiety are minimal, where we know what’s coming next and can plan accordingly.
There is nothing wrong with staying within your zone of comfort. The problem arises when we get too comfortable and start holding ourselves back instead of finding new ways to learn, grow and try new things. Your Creative Vision demands that you GET UP!
LIFE BEGINS AT THE END OF YOUR COMFORT ZONE
YOUR CREATIVE VISION DEMANDS THAT YOU GET UP
Are there certain things that you would like to do or obtain in life? Yet, the fear of stepping outside of your norm has hindered you.
Maybe you’re interested in obtaining a new job, but the idea of starting over scares you. However, since you refuse to step outside of your comfort zone and take a leap of faith, you’re miserable every time Monday comes around. I’m pretty sure we all have been here before.
Has it been a goal of yours too finish or return back to school? But the thought of trying to balance classes and life frightens you. So instead of going for it, you continue to put it off. Yup! (that’s me).
Your Creative Vision
Do you have an idea or invention that could be beneficial to others? But the pressure of thinking it has to be perfect has held you back from creating and launching your craft. I thought everything needed to be perfect (including myself) with HGH before I could start. If that was true, I would have never started because I’m no where near perfect. You creative vision does not require perfection nor does it ask you to have all your ducks in a row or all the money in the bank…all it’s waiting for is you!
Your mind is a powerful thing, don’t allow your thoughts to stop you from reaching your fullest potential. Today make the decision to  take leaps of faith outside of your normal day to day task.
YOUR CREATIVE VISION DOES NOT REQUIRE PERFECTION
I hope this email has reached you in a good space at a good time. Remember, if you do what you always did, you will get what you always got.
Here are some benefits to stepping out of your zone of comfort.
  • Taking risks is what helps us grow.
  • Trying new things can make you more creative.
  • Embracing new challenges can help you age better. Our comfort zones tend to shrink as we get older — but if we can keep expanding them, we’ll open ourselves up to greater fulfillment and improved well-being as we age.-HuffPost
  • Challenging yourself can help you perform at your peak. Stepping outside one’s comfort zone is an important, and almost universal, factor in personal growth.

As we head into 2017, Make your dream, your creative vision a reality by getting up and putting the work needed into it. Take risks, don’t be afraid of failure and keep challenging yourself and those around you to be the best they can be. Write down your 2018 vision and then multiply it by two. You can do it…YOU CAN DO IT!

Here is a great book about not being stuck in your comfort zone and not being afraid of change:

Forever Grateful: Lessons I’ve Learned This Past Year

ISSABIRTHDAYCELEBRATION and all I want to do is reflect on the lessons i’ve learned this past year

Y’all, I am a whole year older, a new year wiser and a new year happier. There is only one word that comes to mind today and that word is GRATEFUL! I am grateful for my life, I am grateful for my family, I am grateful for my friends and I am grateful for all of you! All I want to do is throw a dance party and praise God for all of His many blessings, love, protection and favor. As I reflect on the lessons i’ve learned this past year I am overwhelmed by how much i’ve grown, become more focused and learned to take things in stride. In this post I want to share with you the five lessons i’ve learned this past year of my life and I hope it helps you in some way.

lessons I've learned this past year

Here are the five lessons I’ve learned this past year and I’ll use my name FUNMI as an acronym:

  1. Focus on the Good: There are so many things that point you to the bad and teaches you to focus on what’s wrong with your life, but you have to train your mind to focus on the good all the time. The bad in your life that you don’t like, fix it if it can be fixed but don’t fixate on it. Allow the good to be on the forefront of your mind. Philippians 4:8 says that “whatever things are lovely, whatever things are pure, whatever things are of good report, that’s what you meditate on.” So, remind yourself that you are an AMAZING human and worthy of love, success and happiness.
  2. Understand Yourself: No one will know you better than you know you. I took this year out to find myself, to find out what I wanted to do with my life and figure out how I was going to make it happen. It doesn’t matter what age you are, introspection can happen at any time. So, find yourself, find your dream, find your purpose and everything else will fall into place.
  3. Never Give Up: You don’t know how many times this year I wanted to give up on this whole blogging endeavor. I am two years into this experience and sometimes I get so bogged down with the lack of “progress” that I just want to quit. But, I keep telling myself that someone else’s trajectory is not my trajectory; someone’s path is not my path. I have to remember lesson number one and focus on the good and that keeps me from giving up. Whether it’s your job, your husband, your friends, your dream, DON’T GIVE UP… success is right around the corner.
  4. Make Time For Family: In this world of busyness and Boss moves, we have to remember friends and family. We have to remember the people that helped us get where we are now. This one lesson I’ve learned this past year is very important! I have a one-year-old son and I have to make a choice to focus on him. I’m also married, and in the middle of all the whirlwind of my day, I have to make time to focus on him. We can’t win in the business, education or our sphere of influence and lose our families and friends in the process. Make time for what’s truly important.
  5. Influence Others: The best lesson I’ve learned this year is to influence those around me. I am just starting out in my journey in life with my baby, my husband and my blog but there is someone that needs what I have to offer. I try and use my influence for good and be an open book and an open door. If anyone needs help, advice or prayer, I’m always there to help. Real talk, the more you pour into others, the more you get out of it…SO GIVE OF YOURSELF SELFLESSLY!

lessons I've learned this past year

It’s a new year for me and these lessons I’ve learned this past year will go into 2018 with me. I will focus on the good, ignore the bad and love the ones who love me back. I plan on spending my birthday with my husband in Las Vegas for a couple of days and then coming back and hugging my son until he gets tired of me. I am so grateful to see another year and again, I am grateful for each and everyone of you who come week after week to read, comment and love on my blog and on me. You keep me going. Thank you!

Now that I’ve given you the five lessons I’ve learned this past year, I hope you’ll be able to take them into 2018 with you as well. My look today is very elegant and the color is perfect for the holidays and for my BURFDAY! I wanted to be elegant and dramatic. The skirt is Badgley Mischka from Dillards Department Store and my blouse was especially made by my friends and visionary Derek D’eandre. My heels are from Macy’s Department store. I hope you enjoyed this post and this look. Check out my last post on my favorite faux furs for this winter season HERE.

Hope y’all have a wonderful weekend. For collaborations email me at houseofodarablog@gmail.com and find me on Instagram at Oluwafunmifly to see all the behind-the-scenes Vegas shenanigans.

This list of my favorite faux furs are sure to make any girl swoon

Y’all it’s winter. Well, not really for us down in the South but don’t let that stop you from pulling out your furs. This post is all about my favorite faux furs this season and how you can wear them. Listen Linda, don’t log off, I won’t have you looking like an 80’s rapper I promise. Keep reading and get ready to purchase one or more of my favorite faux furs this season.

When it comes to wearing Fur, less is more. If you’re not going for a really dramatic look or a runway look, you can wear fur and not look over the top. Remember, fur can be just around the collar of a jacket or a fur throw over your shoulder. Nothing looks as good as a leather jacket with a fur collar. Whether your fur is real or faux, don’t be afraid to rock it.

Day 1: The Secret to Blogging

Secret to Blogging

The Secret to blogging is an 11 letter word that brings a sigh to almost every person who hears it…CONSISTENCY!”

So, Here I am almost three years into blogging and I’m still learning new things every single day. Who knew fashion blogging was NOT as glamorous as I thought it would be?. It’s just hard work, long nights and little recognition for a long time. Let me tell you, blogging takes a toll on you mentally, emotionally and physically. When you see these fashion bloggers on the web with 100K plus followers, they have put in years of hard work, long nights and countless hours building their brand. So, for anyone that wants to start a blog, whether it’s fashion, lifestyle, sports or anything in-between, remember the secret to blogging is consistency.

Today, I want to focus on some of the secrets to blogging that have helped me along the way, some of my favorite editing apps, and the bloggers that have inspired me on my journey. FYI, This is my birthday week so I plan on being consistent this week and giving you looks after looks. Also, all gifts can be shipped directly to me (I take MOOLAH)! Jokes aside, I hope these secrets to blogging will help you in one way or another.

secret to blogging

PLATFORMS:

The first secret to blogging is to find a platform that works better for you. There are so many sites that allow you to host your blog on them for FREE. WordPress has a free platform and you can sign up today with just a couple of simple steps. WIX is also one of the top blogging platforms out there for beginner bloggers with a free feature for you as well. The last one I would recommend is Weebly. These are my three favorite, so if you are dreaming about your own blog, give them a try.

CAMERAS:

Now, no matter what kind of blogging you plan on doing, you will need a camera. You want to have your own pictures and not have to rely on stock photography or pictures from the internet. If you are a fashion blogger, a good camera is a must-have. I am a Canon fanatic and I highly recommend the DSLR’s because they are easy to use and take great photos. The Rebel series is my favorite. I recently bought the Canon T6i on Amazon and you can purchase it HERE. I shoot all my photos with either the T6i or my EOS M with a prime lens or a 18-55MM lens or my long range 75-300MM lens. My prime lens is usually for close up portrait photography. This bundle from Amazon comes with a lot of great features and other products as well. You won’t find it cheaper any where else. But, if you can’t afford that camera, there is also a Canon Powershot for $219.99 HERE. But, if you really don’t want to shell out money until you absolutely have to, use your Iphone or Android camera and edit it until you can splurge on a camera. Let’s go to the most important secret to blogging: editing!

EDITING:

Editing is one of the most important secret to blogging that you will ever find out. Most bloggers edit their photos to the GAWDS. they edit everything from their nail polish all the way up to the color of the sky above them. Editing is CLUTCH. I am doing a side-by side comparison of a picture I recently shot with my Canon T6i. It was shot with my 18-55MM lens in a dark parking deck with very low light. Another tip, I always shoot in both RAW and JPG so that I will be able to edit my pictures on both my phone and in Lightroom or Photoshop. I made sure my shutter speed was low to let in more light and my ISO was low so that I didn’t get any distortion. I then took it into Photoshop and edited it. Y’all, one of the biggest secret to blogging is that most of these editing tricks can be done ON YOUR PHONE (HURRAY)!

Can you see the difference a little editing can do to a picture? Don’t I look like a barbie in that edited pic (you better say YES, LOL). Now, Here are my favorite editing platforms that can be done simply on your phone:

  1. Photoshop Express: You can download it straight to your phone and it allows you to do minor editing to your photos. You can fix the exposure, bring in more darks or whites, smooth your skin and lots of other cool features.
  2. Facetune: Man, this is one of my favorite apps. It is not free but it is definitely worth it. This app will smooth your skin like crazy. It will allow you to bring details out in your clothes, makeup or background. Oh, and whiten your teeth which everyone loves to do.
  3. Snapseed: So do you ever see a spot on your dress you want to take out or do you want to darken the background but still highlight your face? This app is for you. I love fixing minor details in Snapseed.
  4. VSCO: I just love this app because it allows me to put great filters on my photos. Great for food or scenic shots.
  5. LightroomCC: This app is comparable to Photoshop Express and has great effect filters.

Remember to not over edit or your pictures will look unrealistic, unless that’s the look you are going for. Once you start editing, you will find a look that you like. Some people like their pictures darker and some people love lighter pictures, so find your editing style and stick to it; this will be your photo signature.

INFLUENCERS:

Another secret to blogging is to find people that inspire you to be better and to keep going. Remember in the beginning I told you the biggest secret to blogging was Consistency, keep that in mind when finding blogger inspirations. Find someone that is doing what you would like to do and watch how consistent they are in their craft. They never take weeks or even days off; they are always in your face with post after post. Consistency is key. In this day and age with so many people blogging, you have to find your niche, stand out in it, and keep working at it. People want to see that you are consistent and passionate about what you are saying and doing. They also love to see your progression as you grow, so show them that as well. Here are some bloggers that inspire me every day to keep going and give me major LIFE with all their posts:

  1. Micah Gianneli: This lady is BOSS every single day with every single post. She is always serving looks from upscale to street style.
  2. Wendyslookbook: She was one of my first blogger crushes. Her style is so ladylike and elegant you can’t help but feel like you know her.
  3. Titiola Sogunro: My blogger BFF I love her personality, drive and of course her style. Blogging is such a competitive art but it’s always good to find people who are willing to help others out. Titi is bae!
  4. Kyrzayda Rodriguez: Man or man this lady knows how to slay. She is battling cancer right now and is so open about her battle and journey. Her style is impeccable and she’s an amazing human.
  5. Holly: Okay, if you want a fresh new look at fashion or over the top styling, she is the one to follow. Her color blocking and textures are always sublime.
  6. Juliette Foxx: I recently started following this beauty but OMG style on 1000%. Her street style always inspires me to push the envelope when it comes to dressing myself.

Because i’m a fashion blogger, I follow people that inspire me daily. Like I said, find someone in your niche and follow them. Never be afraid to slide in their DM and ask for advice or help. The last secret to blogging is to stay humble and engage with every single follower. A simple thank you to a comment on a photo goes a long way. Follow other bloggers, comment on their post, find Facebook groups to join and enjoy the journey. Write down why you want to begin this blogging journey and keep that in mind whenever the road gets bumpy and you want to quit.

I hope this post helped you in some way. I love all of you who visit this blog, visit my instagram and comment and like my post. You all are my real inspiration to keep going and keep striving for success.
