“Entrepreneur: someone who jumps off a cliff and builds a plane on their way down”

I once heard someone say if you don’t see a door, then build one and walk though it. As humans, we like to sit there and wait and wait and wait for a door to arrive. FYI, It’s never coming. Get up and make room for yourself.

I saw a movie called “Joy” yesterday and it motivated me to go for greatness. It was about the life of Joy Mangano, a business woman, author, entrepreneur, and inventor. She began as a broke, mother of two, divorcee with a crazy family that never supported her dreams. She took all the lemons life gave her and made a million dollar jar of lemonade. This movie motivated me like never before. What I got from it is that if you want something, you have to get up and GRAB IT FOR YOURSELF!

Now, Welcome the new Endeavor that I am going to make a multimillion dollar industry: Shakara FAB. My sister and I were born in Lagos, Nigeria and have always had a passion for fashion, entrepreneurship and bringing our culture to those around us. We have lived in the US for 20 plus years and now after much work, prayer and determination, we are going to make this vision a reality.

We have teamed up with our cousin Ashlen of HeyGirlHey and our close family friend Claudia Olojo of King_Queen_Melenin. Our mission is to bring authentic, African-made clothing to our friends, family and people in our sphere of influence. Shakira FAB will be a success because we will make it so by the grace of God.

This look is one of the dresses that will be available from petite to plus size. I love the shape of this dress and the way it accentuates your waist and hips. It gives you an hourglass shape even if you don’t really have one (like me). Now, let’s talk, comment below what you would like to see from us and what problems you want fixed with the fashion industry and it’s representation of all sizes and shapes. We will take your comments and make sure our designs fits everyone.

So, would you wear this dress?! Why or why not, and what would you like to see from our brand Shakara FAB. Again, thank you all for all your support and help. We love your feedback and input and will use it to better us and give you what you want.

Hey friend! I’m excited for you. I’ve been on a long journey of finding ethical clothing lines and it is SO hard! I would really love to see more lines that tell the story of where the clothes came from and how the power of purchase can help restore dignity to those in the developing world. One company that I really admire is doing this is Trove (, and it sounds like what you’re starting is in the same vein – so cool! Excited to see your creative wings expand – you rock!

I just checked out that company Sherei. That is awesome. I feel like fashion should not only benefit the wearer of the items and the company but also another economy. We want to give jobs to those in Africa who would benefit from us bringing business and commerce to them. Everything will be authentic and true to our creed and motto. I love what Trove LLC is doing.

I love your sense of style and ability to pair select pieces to design a cohesively stylish look. I would like to see fashionable yet stylish apparel suitable for middle-aged women.

You don’t look a day over 21 but i totally understand. We will be coming out with some more mature pieces. My mum is handling that end of things.

LOVE this look and concept! May God continue to bless and favor this endeavor.

What I’d like to see more of in fashion, is trendy AND modest style. I wanna be cute too, but I don’t have a seamstress or stylist, like Sarah Jakes Roberts, who can transform cute/hot but tricky runway looks into more modest versions that totally rock.
