RTR

Iron Bowl 2015

First things first…Alabama or Auburn?!

If you’re from the South or love college football, you know what RTR stands for: Roll Tide Roll! The University of Alabama knows they choose a bomb print and a gorgeous color for their uniforms. Houndstooth and Crimson Red go hand-in-hand like Louboutins and Louboutins…lol! I am not a big sports girl, but my husband went to the University of Alabama for undergrad so I have to support and show my team spirit…my way.

A fall essential that every girl should have in their closet is a pair or two of leather tights, leather pants or leather anything! I own about 6 pairs of leather pants and I wear them indiscriminately. I styled my faux leather pants by sugarlips with a white knitted sweater and an Anne Klein Jacket. I found another great Houndstooth jacket on Zulily for $40.00. I love these  leatherette leggings from Dillards because they are affordable and the detailing is gorgeous.

I absolutely love this Anne Klien jacket. Let me know where you found your favorite jacket and put a link down below.

Also, comment below and let me know who you think is going to take this game home, Alabama or Auburn?

Thankful

Happy Thanksgiving All,

I am going to keep this blogpost short, but I wanted to give you a BTS view of how my family celebrates Thanksgiving. Being from Africa, I never knew or celebrated Thanksgiving until I came to America. I fell in love with this awesome tradition. How wonderful is it that we get a whole day dedicated to giving thanks for all the things that we have. This is a tradition that we should try to keep all year around. I am forever grateful for all that God has given me. The opportunity to come to America, my family, my husband, my church and the future I have yet to see or achieve.

I pray that this thanksgiving was a good for you as well. Even if you didn’t celebrate it with your natural family or with all the food and friends that you wanted, you are still blessed because you are alive right now! I thank God for every single one of you that read this blog and encourage me with all the kind words and love…I pray that this holiday season is peaceful and blessed.

Follow this link to view a video of our family prayer and subscribe to my fab youtube page!

After stuffing our face, my husband and I took some time out to go watch the movie Creed . Great movie! Check it out.

Comment below and let us know how your Thanksgiving went and what kind of traditions you and your family have.

BTW, how many of y’all are going out to weather the craziness that is Black Friday? Please be safe and remember that a toaster oven or vacuum is not worth your life…lol!

Because I’m Happy

What does it mean to be truly happy? I remember when I was a kid, I used to be so moody, angry and pessimistic about everything. I never quite fit in any circle. I was from Africa, I was short, I had an accent, I was a nerd…and the list goes on and on. So, needless to say, I was never happy with myself or the world. Then as I got older, I began to become more comfortable with myself and to truly love myself.

I had to come to terms with the fact that no one can make me happy like I can make me happy. I know you’ve probably heard this before, but it is so true. I realized that if there was an area in my life I was unhappy with, I had to take an active role in fixing it…I had to find my own inner happiness. Yes, I was short. Yes, I had an accent. Yes, I was a book-nerd, but that’s what make me who I am. I was not meant to be like everybody else–and I should not want to be like everybody else.

Learning to be internally happy with yourself is the best gift you can give to yourself this holiday season. You may not have the man you want, the money you want, the body you want or the fame you want, but at least you are alive, you are capable and you have a future. So, when you’re feeling unhappy with yourself, or jealous of someone else’s happiness, remember all that you have, be thankful for it, and watch your attitude and feelings begin to change.

Above all, remember that no one can audition to be you, that role is already filled…so break a leg!

Comment below and let us know what things you do to pick yourself up when you’re feeling down, you never now who else needs the wisdom that you have.

Tuxed Out!

It’s almost a New Year you guys and I don’t know about you, but 2015 went by so quickly. I will be doing a post on planning for 2016 and how to set goals that are achievable. Comment below with some of your new year’s goals and plans.

So, i’ve always wanted to do a menswear inspired look. This look is very popular and I like the look of a powerful woman in a tuxedo. I decided to try out this style but make it a little sexy (shhhh…don’t tell my mom). I purchased this great Gianni Bini tuxedo jacket in February and it’s literally been sitting in my closet ever since. I found a sleeveless version on Dillard’s website that’s very chic and another great one, called the “Cara Jacket” is right on the money and my next purchase…(shhh don’t tell Sam). Now, remember, if you click these links, it will take you straight to these products and their websites. I know a lot of people love the whole tuxedo jackets with no shirt trend, but I am not one of those people…I need the support of a bra and shirt.

I’ve had this striped bustier for about 5 years and never worn it. American Apparel has a reasonably priced one that has underwire (the girls that need the extra support can shout now). I love underwire…even in my bathing suits. Their striped cotton spandex underwire bustier is really cute and on sale for $21.

My pants were originally wide leg pants but I took them to a tailor to get the legs slimmed down. H&M has a great pair of tuxedo pants with the satin piping on the sides and the slimmed legs. Check all these sites out and recreate this look.

These sexy Jessica Simpson Claudette D’orsay heels are simply stunning and go well with everything–I have them in three different colors. Make sure you check all these sites out and recreate this look. Also, feel free to email me some pics of you in this great look and I will repost.

Now, let me know what you think about this look, how you would have worn it differently or any suggestions that you have (comment below).

POP

We all have that one great coat that we love so much we wear it with everything. I bought mine from this great store called Ross Dress for Less. If you’ve ever been to Ross, you know you have to search deep and wide but when you do, you find the best items at really great prices.

Now, this season, the two-piece cropped look has been so popular on and off the runway. One of celebrities that I think styled and wore it to perfection is the lovely Kim Kardashian West. She’s a pretty petite woman (in some areas)…So I knew I would be able to pull off this look with my short torso. I found this great two-piece, paired it with some cute heels and added my POP of color…My bright coat.

If you want to replicate this look, I found the cutest two-piece plus-size set at Forever 21…check it out. For my petite and regular girls, check out Charlotte Russe for a real cute and inexpensive set.

Sweater Weather!

It is that time of the year again. Baby it’s cold outside. The seasons are changing and I definitely love it. Being from Africa, my parents never understood why I loved winter so much. I’m the kind of girl that sleeps with my fan on and my window open in the winter. That being said, I also love the clothing that comes with this season. The boots, the sweaters, the layering…(insert heart eyes).

My favorite look for this season is a great oversized sweater with some amazing tights. Since I am a petite person, I will always belt oversized items so I don’t look like a child in my mother’s clothing. Now you can always exchange these for jeggings or even jeans if you need the extra support. Rue 21 has a great pair for a good price. Any oversized sweater will do. The one I have on I bought from Dillards and is no longer in stock. Pick one that you like and see how it looks with or without a belt and rock it.

The boots however, are AVAILABLE and amazing. I have the hugest calf muscles on planet earth so I always have a hard time finding boots that will fit over them. I love these boots because the top is open and they only zip up mid-calf. They fit like a glove. I bought them from an amazon store and they are still in stock so check it out.

Let me know what you think about this look and make sure you register below, follow me on instagram (oluwafunmifly) and friend me on Facebook. Leave your feedback in the comment section and let me know how you would have done this differently or any good sites you know that sell great oversized sweaters. Pass….one picture is not like the other. See if you can spot it and let me know.

Print+Texture

I don’t know about you, but i’ve always been afraid to wear shorts. You know those girls in high school that always wore shorts and they had that spectacular thigh-gap?! I wasn’t one of those girls. I was 4’ll, heavy and afraid of everything. Plus, with my parents being pastors, shorts were NO BUENO! So I NEVER wore shorts. Until I realized, who cares if my thighs talk to each other on a consistent basis? Who cares if they high-five each other every time I walk? No two people are shaped the same and that’s a beautiful thing. So, here is how Emmanuella Oluwafunmilayo Searcy Ford wears short-shorts.

I’m wearing a pair of faux leather shorts by Olsenboye, a red and black printed peplum shirt by Gianni Bini and a printed jacket by Alex Marie. H&M has some great faux-leather shorts for 19.99. Dillard’s has Alex Marie’s Natalya Windowpane Jacket that would go well with any look.

Don’t you just loving mixing prints and textures? Let me know what you think and how you would have paired it differently.

Black Power!

There is something just sexy and powerful about an all black power outfit. We all know about the closet-essential LBD, but let me present to you the Bold Black Look (BBL). I paired a pair of black jeans with a sleeveless black sweater and thigh-high JLO boots. I love this outfit because it’s effortless without being slouchy. Plus the fur accent in the shirt makes this look even more fierce. What do you guys think? How would you have worn it differently and what are your suggestions? Remember, we are growing this blog TOGETHER. I am by no means an expert; I just love fashion and i’m always up for learning something new. Don’t be afraid to comment and we’ll help each other grow.

Since I bought these over the knee boots from Khols over two years ago, they are no longer in stock. But, Khols does carry some other great over the knee boots. Here is the Link. You can also look on Amazon for some great leather boots: there is one by MIA called the Anastacia Over-theKnee Boot. Try to stick with only Amazon Prime purchases if possible; the shipping is faster and it’s easier to dispute purchases and get your money back. FYI Students get a discounted rate for Prime membership. The jeans and shirt are both from Ross Dress for Less.

Remember FlyGirls that style doesn’t have to be expensive to be THE BOMB!!!

SamLovesFun

My husband and I celebrated our One Year Anniversary this Sunday, November 1, 2015. It was spectacular! I finally got that MK Hamilton I had been hinting about all year and that made me super happy, but what made me even happier was that we made it through our first year without any scratches. I’m not just talking about physical scratches, but emotional and psychological bruises as well. We made it out the gate with more love for each other than when we were first feeling the joys of new love. I know we are still in the honeymoon stage of our marriage, but I am grateful to God for keeping us. The one advice I would give to any “more” newly married person than myself is simply to enjoy life, keep God first and put your spouse needs over yours. If you’re putting his needs over yours and he’s putting your needs over his, you are sure to win!

Love suffers long and is kind; love does not envy; love does not parade itself, is not puffed up; does not behave rudely, does not seek its own, is not provoked, thinks no evil; does not rejoice in iniquity, but rejoices in the truth; 7 bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all thing. Love never fails.
